It is with great sadness that the League has to report the death of Neil Houghton who sadly passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning after a short illness.
As most of you will know Neil has been an integral part of the On-Line Elks team who only last week Neil helped clinch promotion to Division Two, an achievement that I personally know he was proud of, not just for himself but for the rest of his team mates.
He also this season made the Finals of the Division Three Singles and Doubles which again I personally know from my conversations with him he was very proud of.
Off the table Neil will be best remembered for the many hours he gave to the coaching of young players not only in Worksop but at Wellow, Chesterfield and Burton to name but a few of the places he coached at.
He also selflessly gave up his evenings running junior players to matches, often going miles out of his way to help progress young players.
On a personal note, Neil often sent lengthy e-mails and texts to myself regarding an array of table tennis matters and his passion for the game was commendable and I shall miss him.
As soon as I receive details of his funeral arrangements I shall of course announce them on the League's website etc.
