Blue Jays Continue Unbeaten Run

Sparken Hill Blue Jays kept their 100% record intact in Division Three this week with an 8-2 win away at new boys to the league Real North Notts 'B'. The back bone to their victory was an Ivan Stallworthy hat trick who despite being taken to 4 sets on two occasions never looked in any real trouble. Stallworthy was well supported by his team mates Connor Bettley and Dave Rix who both had two wins each, both over Tom Ogley and Jerry Collins but they couldn't repeat the feat against Glen Gillgrass who beat them both to register the only wins for his Real North Notts team. Rix and Stallworthy completed the scoring by taking the doubles.
Current league leaders Worksop Welfare Cypriots 'A' were also in action this week but they were involved in a much closer match which they eventually managed to win by a 6-4 margin. The Cypriot's Farhad Saiepour continued his 100% start to the season by registering yet another hat trick enjoying very comfortable wins over Brian Hall, Sam McFarland and Scott Lee. After Nigel Stent had beaten Hall and also helped Saiepour win the doubles the outcome of the match hinged on the last set of the night between Stent and McFarland with Cypriots 'A' leading 5-4. Stent duly beat McFarland in straight sets to seal the victory and to keep his side at the top of the table.
Worksop Owls registered their first win of the season thumping DTH Red Devils 10-0 in the process! There were hat tricks all round for the Owls trio of Louis Spray, Jasper Turner and Finley Coburn who despite the 10-0 score line didn't have an easy night of it as the score line may have suggested with spirited performances by the Red Devils team of Phil Daly, Cliff Briggs and Jacob Hodkinson.
Division Two is shaping up to be a fascinating division as nearly all of the teams in it are capable of beating each other and so it proved again this week as Stanley Street 'B' who are currently second and who are in the mix for the two promotion places lost a close match to Worksop Welfare Snipers 'B' who were down in sixth place. Despite the defeat Stanley Street's Jack Kirkland continued his rich vein of form by winning all his three games against Tony Swain, Mark Sansom and Adrian Smith but it wasn't enough to save his side from losing 6-4.
Despite being in third place Sparken Hill Eagles remain unbeaten and they recorded their third win of the season with an 8-2 win over DTH Redlands Joggers who after winning their first three games of the season have now lost their last two and are in danger of losing touch with the leaders. John Hallgarth did most of the damage for the Eagles as he won all his three games with Brian Allen and Alex Olliffe adding two wins each, both losing out to Kieran Tutter.
DTH Redlands X-Youth remain top and after beating Manton Tigers have now stretched their lead at the top to 5 points. Mark Bloomer and Jeff Reay returned hat tricks for X-Youth with Clive Eden adding a solo win over Steve Beeston in an 8-2 victory but Eden lost to Bill Bateman and Ron Firth who was making his debut for the Tigers.
DTH Redlands Rookies continued their trend of being involved in matches with an 8-2 score line. After losing their first four league games 8-2 they managed to win their first match of the season with an 8-2 victory of Real North Notts 'A'. Dilip Malkan and Chris Cutts remained unbeaten on the night with Chris Clemson adding a single win over Adam Kijak but losing out to both Jonno Blood and Lewis Linacre before he teamed up with Chris Cutts to take the doubles against Linacre and Dave Piper.
