Eagles Perched On Top Of Division Two
Sparken Hill Eagles have made the perfect start to their Division Two campaign and are the early leaders of Division Two. Their latest win came against Worksop Welfare Harriers B and as in their first match, they won it 10-0 and therefore have yet to drop a set so far. There were hat tricks all round for Brain Allen, Chris Tilstone and John Hallgarth with Allen and Hallgarth taking the doubles. The Harriers B side can take some consolation in the fact that they did play well and could have easily taken a couple of the closer games as Tilstone took 5 games to beat Dan Saul as did Allen to beat Dave Lyus.
Another side with two wins from two are Manton Tigers who this week dispatched their club colleagues Manton Sports 8-2 with Bill Bateman and Dave Bowns leading the way with fine hat-trick of wins over Alan Wilson, Steve Dix and Richard Robinson. Steve Beeston chipped in with a single win over Steve Dix but lost out to Robinson and Wilson. Beeston also had a hand in winning the doubles with Bateman against John Lowde and Steve Dix in a tight contest, winning it 15-13, 13-11, 11-9. The win puts the Tigers joint top with Sparken Hill Eagles on 6 points each.
The final match in Division Two this week between Carlton X-Youth and Clowne C was postponed.
The two most fancied teams for the Division Three title met this week with Sparken Hill Hawks and their club colleagues the Falcons battling out a close and entertaining match. Man Of The Match was Lewis Linacre who beat all of the Falcons trio of Neil Penny, Luke Barraclough and Connor Bettley. The Hawks Adam Pinches chipped in with a win over Barraclough and then teamed up with Linacre to beat Barraclough and Bettley in the doubles to secure the 5 sets that secured the Hawks a share of the spoils. For the Falcons Bettley and Neil Penny won two games each with Barraclough winning one.
Despite a Mark Fisher hat-trick, Worksop Welfare Harriers C won their first match of the season with a 6-4 victory over Sparken Hill Nightingales. Kian Tansley with 2, Cliff Briggs 2 and Bill Fowler with 1 plus the doubles secured the Harriers win.
The final match in Division Three this week saw Worksop Welfare Real Deal beat Sparken Hill Pigeons 7-3 with the help of a Tom Ogley hat-trick with two wins a piece for Michael Candy and Jerry Collins.
For the second week running Clowne A could only field two players and again saw points dropped that with three players would not have happened. They actually beat Clowne B 7-3 but because of the rules the best they could get was a 5-5 draw despite both Steve Lyon and John Davies winning all of their games.
