Emmerson And McIntyre Take DTH Doubles

Terry Emmerson and Kathy McIntyre have been crowned DTH Senior Doubles Champions for this season. The competition named after the League’s Sponsor DTH Engineering attracted 24 players who were ranked from 1-24 with the player ranked 1 paired with the player ranked 24, player ranked 2 with 23, 3 with 22 and so on. The pairings were then split into two groups of 6 pairings who then all played each other with the top two teams going through to the semi-finals.
Group A was a tight affair which was topped by Ben Swain and John Lowde who won 4 out of their 5 group games scoring 153 points and dropping only 2 points in the process to go through to the semi-finals as group winners. Who would finish as runners up in the group wasn’t as clear cut as two pairings were in with a chance of making it through to the semi-finals going into the last group games. The pairings of Russ Webster & Mark Bloomer and Mark Sansom & Shaun Layden were both in with a shout of claiming a place in the semis and it came down to the last few shots to decide who would make it through but in the end it was Webster & Bloomer by virtue of winning one more point than Sansom & Layden as they finished on 147 points with Sansom & Layden just missing out, one point further back on 146.
Group B was a little more clear cut as the eventual group winners in Terry Emmerson & Kathy McIntyre won all of their group games to finish top of the group scoring the maximum points possible in 150 from their 5 games.
The runners up in Group B also featured a McIntyre as Kathy’s husband John made it through to the semi-finals with his playing partner Kartik Lakhani. Lakhani and McIntyre only lost one of their group games which was against Emmerson and Kathy McIntyre finishing some way ahead of the third placed pairing.
Neither of the semi-final matches were particularly close affairs with Emmerson and Kathy McIntyre comfortably beating Webster and Bloomer 31-21 in the first semi-final and Lakhani and John McIntyre doing even better in beating Swain and Lowde in the second semi to set up a repeat of the Group A game earlier in the night.
The final was played best of three games up to 21 and Lakhan and John McIntyre took the first game 21-18 but Emmerson and Kathy McIntyre took the next game 21-12 to take it to a deciding game which they took 21-14 to be crowned DTH Senior Doubles Champions.

The night after the DTH Senior Doubles competition, the quarter finals of the Carnation Cup were played out. Dean Marsh and Graham Stent had a great 4-1 win over Mitchell Radford and Lewis Linacre with Connor Bettley and Dave Lee going one better by thumping Dan Saul and Kathy McIntyre 5-0. The last two quarter finals were much closer and both went down to the wire with Mark Bloomer and John McIntyre just beating Peter Eyre and Tom Ogley 3-2 with Mark Cooper and Luke Barraclough beating Andy Vinson and Michael Candy by the same scoreline. The semi-finals will both be played in the New Year with a date to be confirmed.
