Hawks Prey On Pigeons To Go Top

Sparken Hill Hawks whitewashed Sparken Hill Pigeons this week to soar to the top of the Division three table to be the early leaders of the division. Their win came courtesy of hat tricks for Lewis Linacre, Paul Wendon and Adam Pinches with the Player Of The Match award going the way of Wendon. The Pigeons trio of Zak Berridge, Harry Stott and Sam Liversidge battled hard but were unable to trouble the Hawks team. Wendon and Pinches took the doubles against Berridge and Liversidge to complete the scoring for the Hawks.
Sparken Hill Blue Jays kept up the pressure on the Hawks and moved up into joint second place with a 7-3 win over Worksop Welfare Real Deal. A Kathy McIntyre hat-trick paved the way for the Blue Jays victory and she was well supported by Dave Lee who enjoyed wins over both Tom Ogley and Jerry Collins but lost out to Glenn Gillgrass who also had a good win over John McIntyre. Tom Ogley also beat John McIntyre to make up the three singles wins for Real Deal but he couldn’t add to their score when he joined up with Gillgrass in the doubles as they lost out to John and Kathy McIntyre.
Into Division Two and Clowne ‘C’ after a blank week and a cancelled match finally got their season underway with a 10-0 thumping of bottom side Worksop Welfare Harriers ‘B’. There were hat-tricks all round for new signing Perry Bradford, Steve Elkin and Rob Vaughan with Elkin and Vaughan completing the whitewash winning the doubles.
Sparken Hill Eagles came out victorious in the clash of the top two as they defeated the previously unbeaten Manton Tigers 7-3. The Tigers could only field two players in Steve Beeston and Dave Bowns and they suffered for it as the Eagles John Hallgarth beat both Bowns and Beeston to pave the way for their win.
Carlton X-Youth got their first win of the season as they just edged out Worksop Welfare Harriers ‘A’ 6-4. Mark Bloomer was the Player Of The Match as he recorded an impressive hat-trick of wins with Mark Cooper adding a further two wins with Shaun Layden chipping in with a single win to complete the scoring.
Division One is currently being led by Worksop Miners Welfare who made it two wins from two with a narrow win over Clowne ‘B’ helped by a Phil Walton hat-trick. Chris Cattell supported Walton with two wins of his own with Mick Bell missing out on this occasion. Bell and Cattell completed a 6-4 win by combining to take the doubles.
Clowne ‘A’ got their title challenge back on track with a convincing 9-1 over Worksop Welfare Snipers with hat-tricks for both John Davies and Ernest Mpundu. Steve Lyon added two wins before losing out to Pete Hodgson. Davies and Mpundu then teamed up to take the doubles against Hodgson and Jim Westwood.
