Joggers Run Into Trouble

DTH Redlands Joggers who before this week's round of league matches were sitting on the top of Division Two having won all their three opening league games and must of been dreaming of winning the Division Two title. That was until their club colleagues DTH Redlands X-Youth popped up to turn their dream into a nightmare as they gave them a right old thumping by white washing them 10-0! There were hat tricks all round for the X-Youth trio of Matt Turner, Clive Eden and Jeff Reay in a match that the X-Youth controlled from start to finish. The Joggers Kyle McIntosh did manage to take Turner to 5 sets as did Lewis Comley against Eden but apart from that the match was pretty much a one sided affair. Turner and Reay also added the doubles beating McIntosh and Matthew Mudd to put the icing on the cake of what was a very impressive win, a win that has now seen X-Youth leapfrog the Joggers to go top of the table.
Sparken Hill Eagles kept the pressure on the top two by recording a 7-3 win over Worksop Welfare Snipers 'C'. Snipers cause wasn't helped by having to play a player up from Division Three but they still managed to put in a spirited performance with both George Makrakis and Mitchell Radford both beating Mark Fisher but they were the only singles games they managed to win as both Alex Olliffe and John Hallgarth registered hat tricks before the Snipers outfit took the doubles to complete the scoring.
At the other end of the table Real North Notts who currently occupy bottom spot nearly managed to register their first point of the season just missing out on a draw narrowly losing 6-4 to Worksop Welfare Snipers 'B'. The Snipers Ben Swain was man of the match as he won all his singles games against Lewis Linacre, Adam Kijak and Jonno Blood and then had a hand in winning the doubles with his team mate Jerry Hollins. Hollins also defeated Blood and Kijak to help get his team over the line with Chris Tilstone missing out on this occasion.
Manton Sports finally won their first match of the season with an 8-2 win over DTH Redlands Rookies who have now lost all their three opening games by the same 8-2 score line. The men on form for Sports were Alan Wilson and James Weston who both eased to their hat tricks with their team mate Keith Smith losing to both Chris Cutts and Dilip Malkan before managing to beat Chris Clemson. in straight sets. Smith and Weston then teamed up to take the doubles against Cutts and Malkan.
If X-Youths 10-0 win over the Joggers set the cat amongst the pigeons in Division Two then Worksop Miners Welfare 'A's win in Division One this week over defending champions DTH Redlands Roosters has now blown the title race wide open. The Welfare's 7-3 win came on a night saw some fantastic table tennis throughout and despite an Ernest Mpundu hat trick the Roosters side could do little else to stop their opponents from taking all 3 points. Welfare's James Hudd, Richard Element and Mark Stanfield all beat the Rooster's Steve Fox and Rick Harris before Element and Stanfield took the doubles set secure a 7-3 win, a win that sees Welfare 'A' only 2 points behind both the Roosters and DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys at the top of the table with a game in hand on both.
