Marble On A Roll As Unbeaten Run Continues

Division One side Global Marble continue to upset the odds and reached the dizzy heights of being  top of Division One albeit for only for 48 hours. Their latest win came in what turned out to be a strange game against Ryton Park Bees who were at one point leading 2-0 and looking like they would cause an upset themselves. Veteran Brian Allen who played all his three games straight off and then leaving  had beaten both Rob Vaughan and Kerry Radford before just losing out to Kartik Lakhani to leave the Bees 2-1 in front. Vaughan then went on to play Joe Else and with the set poised at one game all Else reached for a ball and injured his back and despite bravely trying to carry on in the third game he was unable to complete it. He then had to concede his other two matches and as Allen had already left, the Bees also had to concede the doubles leaving Global 5-2 ahead. That left Bees third player Matt Lemon to try and rescue a point and although he managed to beat Vaughan he could not repeat the feat against Radford and Lakhani which meant Global ran out 7-3 winners and on top of Division One.
Ryton Park Bees played 2 matches in one week and oddly enough in both matches the team they were playing against went to the top of the Division! Their second match was against DTH Redlands Outlaws who also managed to beat them by a 7-3 margin but against a full complement of players. Chris Cattell once again won all his three games for the Outlaws being well supported by Helmuth Osbourne who won two and Dave Capewell who chipped in with a single win before Cattell and Osbourne paired up to win the doubles as well. The Bees trio of Matt Lemon, Brian Allen and Gary Scott all managed a solo win each.
Despite Global and The Outlaws both hitting top spot possibly the most significant match this week in the race for the title was between last year's Runners Up Zygabytes and last year's title winners DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys. In a match that ebbed and flowed throughout it was Fluffy Toys Paul Johnson who shined on the night as he recorded a superb hat trick which set them on their way to a 6-4 win which could prove to be pivotal in where this year's title ends up. Johnson was admirably supported by captain Steve Walker who won two of his games and then teamed up with Johnson to take the doubles set as well. For the Zygabytes, Joe Zygadlo, Dean Brookes and Bob Hume all managed to beat Tom Wesley with Brookes also managing to beat Steve Walker.

Division Three
Two sides in Division Three both either caught up or brought forward games which meant they both had two games in a week and ironically they both won them 10-0! Ryton Park Cougars beat both club colleagues the Dragons and Centre For Sport with the same trio of Dave Rix, Dave Lee and Alex Oliffe whilst DTH Redlands Tarr Babies just about fielded two completely different sides to whitewash two other Redlands teams in the Cypriots and the Rascals. Firstly Antony Coupe, Jack Tarr and Matthew Mudd walloped the Rascals and then Lewis Comley, Alan Keeling and Mudd again, hammered the Cypriots.

Division Two
Promoted from last season Stanley Street 'B' haven't found life in a higher division that easy but finally after 4 straight defeats they managed to get their season up and running with a win against two man DTH Redlands Morris Men. Two wins each for both Jack Kirkland and Ralph Rodda paved the way to victory with captain Andy Kirkland gaining a solo win and with the three sets already obtained by the Morris Men being a player short and the doubles it all meant that Stanley Street ran out comfortable 9-1 winners. The only glimmer for the Morris Men was a win for Kyle McIntosh against Andy Kirkland.
