MBE Take The Honours In Clash With Fluffy Toys
MBE inflicted a rare defeat on current Division One title holders DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys and even rarer than that was Fluffy Toys Richard Wesley not winning all of his three matches. Wesley's defeat came against Richard Element who was making his debut in the Worksop League and what a debut it was as he marked the occasion by also beating Tom Wesley and Tom McIntosh to register an impressive hat trick. The 6-4 win for MBE wasn't just down to Element as his team mates Craig Straw and Dave Marsh both made significant contributions with Straw beating both Tom Wesley and Tom Mcintosh before Dave Marsh added a vital win over McIntosh in a 5 set thriller. The Wesley brothers teamed up to take the doubles against Straw and Element but it was too little too late to stop MBE taking all three points.
Another Division One side enjoying a victory were Ryton Park Adders who defeated fellow relegation battlers Stanley Street 'A' with captain Andy Lee making a welcome return to form by beating all three Street 'A' players Dave Hodgkin, Alex Millward and Matthew Williams to set his team on their way to a welcome three points. Lee was well supported by Matt Lemon and Ivan Guilliatt who both beat Hodgkin and Williams but couldn't defeat a resilient Alex Millward. Lee and Lemon then came together to take the doubles for an 8-2 victory which means they now leapfrog above Street 'A' in their battle to avoid the trap door into Division Two.
DTH Redlands Joggers continued their recent good run of form with another win, this time against bottom side Manton Tigers. Lea Dickinson again had an excellent night by registering a hat trick as did the undefeated Steve Walker. The only joy in the singles for the Tigers came through Bill Bateman and Paul Alison who both beat Lewis Comley but Comley hit back to win his first game in Division One by beating Steve Beeston in straight sets. Beeston and Bateman then teamed up to beat Dickinson and Comley but it couldn't help the Tigers from slipping to their 4th defeat in a row.
DTH Redlands Roosters fell fowl of the rules this week as they turned up with only two players against Manton Misfits. Despite a Rick Harris hat trick and two wins from Steve Fox and the doubles rubber to give them a 6-4 win on the night, rule 7f came into play which means that the best a team with two players can get on the night is a 5-5 draw. The only joy for the Misfits came when Kartik Lakhani beat the previously undefeated Steve Fox 12-10 in the fifth set.
