Monsters Hit Frightening Form

DTH Redlands Monsters have started their Division Two campaign in impressive form and have now won all three of their opening fixtures and sit proudly on top of the division. The three Riauba brothers Orestas, Valentinas and Martynas who are coached by team Captain Howard Knott have now become one of the promotion favourites to Division One especially after their latest win over one of the other front runners DTH Redlands Joggers. Orestas did most of the damage beating all three Joggers players in Matthew Mudd, Lewis Comley and Dennis Learad with Valentinas adding wins over both Mudd and Learad with Martynas beating Learad to complete the singles. Martynas and Orestas then teamed up to beat Mudd and Comley 3-1 in the doubles to complete a 7-3 win which was much closer than the scoreline suggests as six of the games went to deciding sets with the remaining games going to four sets.
The only other team in Division Two to have a perfect record are Stanley Street 'B' who won again this week against a Manton Tigers side that surprisingly have lost all three of their opening league fixtures having come down from Division One last season. Streets Jack Kirkland and Paul Linfield are men in form at the moment and were both defending their 100% records in the division and none of the Tigers trio could do anything to spoil it as Dave Bowns, Chris Mokes and Steve Beeston all lost against the Street pair. The only successes that the Tigers had were singles wins over Andy Kirkland for both Mokes and Bowns and then they teamed up in the doubles to beat Kirkland and Linfield in four sets but it was nowhere near enough to stop them slipping to a 7-3 defeat to leave them with no points and third bottom of the table.
Another team that are struggling at the wrong end of the table are Manton Sports who like their club colleagues the Tigers have no lost all three of their opening games and find themselves camped at the bottom of the table looking up at all the rest. Their latest defeat came against DTH Redlands X-Youth who had Jeff Reay in top form as he won all his three games without too much trouble against John Lowde, Alan Wilson and Richard Robinson with Mark Bloomer adding wins over Lowde and Robinson but  losing out to Wilson who also defeated Clive Eden. Eden went on to beat Lowde but was beaten in straight sets against Robinson. Reay and Bloomer added the doubles to cement a 7-3 win for X-Youth which leaves them comfortably in mid table.
Amazingly all four matches in Division Two this week finished 7-3 and the last game to finish with the  scoreline was the match between Worksop Welfare 'B' and Stanley Street Cypriots with the Welfare team coming out on top. Tony Swain was Man Of The Match for Welfare 'B' as he comfortably beat all three Cypriot players with Ralph Rodda, Mitchell Radford and Graham Stent all beaten in straight sets. Swain was well supported by Adam Hamilton and Glyn Payne who both chipped in with two wins each with Payne and Swain well beaten in the doubles against Radford and Rodda.
