Monsters Sitting Pretty At Top Of Table
DTH Redlands Monsters are currently sitting on top of the pile in Division One with four wins from their first four league games and have opened up a 3 point gap to he chasing pack.
Their latest win came against Stanley Street ‘A’ who strengthened in the summer by adding Terry Emerson to their squad and will trouble a few of the top sides this season and they very nearly snatched a draw against the Monsters. Terry Emmerson, Jack Kirkland and Alex Millward all beat Kieran Tutter with Emmerson also beating Orestas Riauba, but it wasn’t quite enough to grab a share of the spoils. Valentinas Riauba was Man of The Match for the Monsters with a hat trick of wins and with his brother Orestas adding a further two wins it meant the doubles game would be pivotal to the outcome of the match. Orestas and Valentinas took the first two sets against Emmerson and Kirkland but were pegged back to two sets all before they finally got the better of their opponents by winning the deciding set 11-8 which helped them to a 6-4 victory.
DTH Redlands Roosters who are currently sitting in second place and on the Monsters tails also enjoyed a home win this week after dispatching Sparken Hill Starlings 7-3. Ernest Mpundu did most of the damage for the Roosters beating all three Starlings in Andy Lee, Helmuth Osborne and Alex Olliffe playing up from Division Two. Mpundu was well supported by Rick Harris who added wins over Olliffe and Osborne with Steve Fox chipping in with a single win also over Olliffe. Mpundu and Fox added the doubles to the Roosters tally beating Osborne and Lee in 5 sets.
Clowne ‘A’ finally got their first win of the season beating Worksop Welfare Snipers ‘A’ 9-1 with the game being much closer than the scoreline suggested. For Clowne ‘A’ both John Davies and Kartik Lakhani remained unbeaten, both enjoying wins over Ben Swain, Pete Hodgson and Russ Webster. Clowne ‘A’s third player Steve Lyon enjoyed wins over Webster and Swain but couldn’t match his teammates endeavours losing to Hodgson in a real battle that went to a deciding game. Davies and Lakhani then teamed up to beat Webster and Swain to take the doubles game.
Clowne ‘B’ and Worksop Miners Welfare met this week in the battle of the bottom two sides in Division One as both sides looked to register their first win of the season and despite both sides being level with no points so far this season it was a one sided contest as the Welfare side ran out 9-1 winners. Richard Element and Chris Cattell were untroubled all evening with both registering hat tricks with the only success for Clowne ‘B’ coming when James Weston came from 2-0 down to beat Mick Bell 3-2. The Welfare side added the doubles when Bell and Element defeated Weston and Steve Elkin to seal their win and move them up into mid-table.
Stanley Street ‘B’ caught up with their postponed fixture from earlier in the season by playing two games in a week. They enjoyed an 8-2 win over Worksop Welfare Harriers before then inflicting a first defeat of the season on Manton Sports 7-3.
Division Two leaders Worksop Welfare Snipers ‘B’ continued the 100% record with a 10-0 whitewashing of Carlton X-Youth, with the win putting them 6 points clear at the top having played a game more than their main rivals.
Worksop Welfare Cannon are becoming the draw specialists after drawing their second game of the season, this time against Sparken Hill Falcons which on paper looked like a cracking game.
Sparken Hill Eagles recorded an impressive 8-2 win away at Manton Tigers with John Hallgarth turning the clock back to register a hat trick of wins.
There’s nothing between the top two sides in Division Three with both Sparken Hill Hawks and DTH Redlands Rovers enjoying wins this week. The Hawks registered a 7-3 win away at Worksop Welfare Real Deal whist the Rovers beat DTH Redlands Mean Machine 10-0.
The final result in Division Three this week was DTH Redlands Rookies 7-3 victory over Sparken Hill Nightingales.
