Redlands Teams Set To Win All Three Divisional Titles
Barring an almighty collapse of biblical proportions all three divisions in the Worksop & District Table Tennis League will this year be won by DTH Redlands teams.
Division One can now only be won by a Redlands team as mathematically a non Redlands team cannot catch DTH Redlands Roosters who lead the division and are 20 points in front of the 3rd placed team with only a maximum 18 points on offer between now and the end of the season.
The Roosters continued their unblemished league record this week with their 15th straight victory with a 10-0 win over relegation threatened Stanley Street 'A' who's fight to avoid the drop hasn't been helped recently by player selection issues. For the Roosters, Rick Harris, Steve Fox and Ernest Mpundu all won their respective three singles games against Jack Kirkland, Matthew Williams and Peter Eyre with only 3 of the games not being won in straight sets. Harris and Mpundu teamed up in the doubles which they won against Kirkland and Williams in straight sets to complete the whitewash and leave themselves just three wins away from clinching the title.

In Division Two DTH Redlands Monsters continue to be the team to beat and this week they enjoyed a 9-1 win over a Manton Tigers side to maintain their 7 point lead at the top over Worksop Miners Welfare 'B'. The Tigers who came down from Division One last season were fancied to go straight back up again but find themselves sitting just above the relegation zone. For The Monsters both Orestas and Valentinas Riauba registered hat tricks to set them on their way and when fellow sibling Martynas added a double with wins over Phil Hall and Steve Beeston the writing was on the wall for the Tigers. Chris Mokes spared the Tigers blushes by beating Martynas in 5 sets before Valentinas and Orestas came together to defeat Hall and Beeston in the doubles to seal their win, a win that now leaves the Monsters only needing to win 3 out of their remaining 6 matches to clinch promotion to Division One.

The race for the Division Three title had always looked to be over before it even started and this looks like being proved to be the case as hot favourites DTH Redlands Rookies continue to gallop towards the title. This week they were up against Ryton Park Cougars who were sat in 2nd place in the table before this week's round of league matches and who, like The Rookies came down from Division Two last season and were looking for a swift return. The night started well for The Cougars when Ivan Stallworthy beat Chris Clemson to give them a 1-0 lead but that was their first and last success of the night as the Rookies won the next 9 games on the bounce to complete a 9-1 victory with both Chris Cutts and Dilip Malkan remaining unbeaten on the night. Connor Bettley and Harvey Renshaw were the other two Cougars players but neither of them could quite do enough to trouble the scorers on this occasion. Bettley and Renshaw also teamed up in the doubles but went down in straight sets to Clemson and Derek Piper. The Rookies now need only one more win to clinch promotion back to Division Two and once that has been achieved that can then concentrate on clinching the title.
