Roosters Make A Great Start
DTH Redlands Roosters got their Division One title defence to the perfect start with two wins out of two. Ironically both wins came against sides from Manton with the first one being away at Manton Misfits were they gave them a bit of a hammering whitewashing them 10-0. There were hat tricks all round for Ernest Mpundu, Clive Mitchell and Steve Fox.
In their second match the same three players did the business again as they enjoyed an 8-2 win over Manton Nomads with only Sarah Short causing the Roosters any real problems as she beat both Fox and Mitchell to ensure the Nomads avoid the same fate as their club colleagues.
The Roosters main title rivals this season will again be DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys who also got off to the perfect start and are now level on points at the top of the league with their club colleagues. They first saw off a battling Stanley Street 'A' side 7-3 with hat tricks for both Steve Walker and Peter Cowburn with Steve Johnson adding a single win over Dave Hodgkin but losing out to both Alex Millward and Peter Eyre with the same two players taking the doubles set to finish the scoring. Next up for the Toys were DTH Redlands Monsters who this season are making their first appearance in Division One and had lost their first match 8-2 away at Manton Nomads. If the Monsters trio of Riauba brothers were hoping for a different outcome against the Fluffy Toys, that hope wouldn't last long as they were soon under the cosh and despite putting in a spirited performance Martynas, Orestas and Valentinas couldn't quite manage to trouble the scorers as they were white washed 10-0.
Elsewhere in Division One Worksop Welfare Snipers 'A' who were also promoted last season got off to an indifferent start, probably because they fielded two completely different sides in their first two games! In their first Dean Brookes, Joe Zygadlo and Erlands Skels saw off Sparken Hill Starlings by a 7-3 scoreline with both Brookes and Zygadlo remaining unbeaten and taking the doubles together with Skels losing to all three Starlings players in Andy Lee, Helmuth Osborne and Ivan Guilliatt.
Snipers 'A' then fielded Jim Westwood, Pete Hodgson and Ben Swain which on paper isn't their strongest side but still managed to give Manton Misfits a real scare before eventually going down 6-4. Westwood was on top form as he beat both Matt Fowkes and Malcolm Manuel with Hodgson also beating Fowkes. It was left to the Misfits Kalpesh Bhatt to drag his team to victory as he remained unbeaten in the singles but lost the doubles with Manuel.

The early leaders in Division Two are Stanley Street 'B' and DTH Redlands Joggers with both sides winning both of their opening matches. Street 'B' had a good 7-3 opening win against DTH Redlands X-Youth with Jack Kirkland, Matt Williams and Paul Linfield all winning two games each before Kirkland and Linfield teamed up to take the doubles. They then followed that up by dispatching Real North Notts 'A' 9-1 as both Father and Son Andy and Jack Kirkland won all their three games with Glyn Williams adding a further two wins.
DTH Redlands Joggers who are joint top opened their account with a comfortable 8-2 win over DTH Redlands Rookies with both Kyle McIntosh and Matthew Mudd registering hat tricks with a single win for Lewis Comley and the doubles completing the scoring. In their next match they were up against Manton Tigers who fielded their strongest possible side but it still wasn't enough as a fabulous hat trick from the Joggers Kyle McIntosh set his side on their way to a narrow 6-4 win. McIntosh beat all three of the Tigers players in Bill Bateman, Chris Mokes and Dave Bowns and he was well supported by Lewis Comley who beat both Bateman and Bowns with the returning Keiran Tutter who hasn't played for 2 years also beating Bateman.
