Sparken Hill Lead The Way In Division Three
The top three places in Division Three are currently occupied by Sparken Hill teams who all enjoyed wins this week. Third placed Blue Jays had a solid win away at Worksop Welfare Harriers ‘C’ with Player Of The Match Kathy McIntyre and Dave Lee both winning all of their three singles games against Nick Sievewright, Bill Fowler and Cliff Briggs. The Blue Jays third player Dave Rix also enjoyed wins over Bill Fowler and Cliff Briggs but couldn’t get past Sievewright losing in 4 sets to the Harriers player.
Sievewright then teamed up with Fowler to beat Lee and John McIntyre in the doubles but it wasn’t nearly enough to stop the Blue Jays running out 8-2 winners.
Second placed Falcons were at home against another Sparken Hill side in The Pigeons and as expected claimed all 3 points with a convincing 9-1 win although the match didn’t start well for the Falcons. The Falcons Connor Bettley was up against Zak Berridge and Berridge put in a great performance get his side off to a wonderful start by defeating Bettley in 4 sets to put the Pigeons 1-0 ahead. The Pigeons 1-0 lead was as good as it got for them as they lost the next nine games to lose the match 9-1. For the Falcons both Luke Barraclough and Mick Potter both beat Berridge, Harry Stott and Evan Bownes with Barraclough and Bettley teaming up to take the doubles against Berridge and Bownes to complete the scoring for the Falcons.
Division Three leaders Sparken Hill Hawks continued their fine start to the season with yet another win, this week against Sparken Hill Robins. Lewis Linacre returned his usual hat trick of singles wins for the Hawks to make it 15 singles wins out of 15 with both Paul Wendon and Adam Pinches adding a further 2 wins each beating Joseph Hulley and Reece Carnall but both losing out to Luke Hyde. Wendon and Linacre then joined forces to defeat Hulley and Hyde in the doubles to complete an 8-2 win.
At the other end of the Division Three table Sparken Hill Nightingales continue to improve and this week they narrowly lost to the more experienced Worksop Welfare Real Deal.
The Nightingales Charlie Shepherd earned the Player Of The Match award as he beat all three Real Deal players in Tom Ogley, Michael Candy and Glen Gillgrass. Harrison Holland added a solo win over Michael Candy but the Nightingales couldn’t quite win that other elusive game to take a share of the spoils as they went down 6-4 with a spirited performance.
