Stanley Street Get Title Challenge Back On The Right Road
Division Two side Stanley Street 'B' bounced back from their first defeat of the season with two back to back wins to go 3 points clear at the top of the table. Their first win was against 6-4 specialists DTH Redlands X-Youth and it will come as no surprise to learn that Stanley Street won the match by a 6-4 score line which meant that all X-Youth's matches so far this season have incredibly ended in a 6-4 result! Despite a Mark Bloomer hat trick and a single win for Jeff Reay, X-Youth couldn't manage to win another set to get a share of the spoils. For Stanley Street both Kyle McIntosh and Matthew Williams won two sets each with Jack Kirkland adding a solo win with McIntosh and Kirkland beating Reay and Bloomer in the doubles to finish the scoring.
In their 2nd match which on paper looked to be the tougher of the two fixtures they were up against an in form Ryton Park Eagles side who had title aspirations of their own after a recent terrific run of form but they were brought crashing back down to earth. Stanley Street's Kyle McIntosh and Paul Linfield both put in great performances to register hat tricks and they were well supported by the improving Matthew Williams who chipped in with two wins of his own before teaming up with McIntosh to also win the doubles. The only success for the Eagles came when John Hallgarth beat Williams and although the final result was a 9-1 win for Stanley Street the match was a lot closer than the score line suggests.
Global Marble 'B' managed to win only their 2nd game of the season to keep them in mid table safety against DTH Redlands Joggers. In a close match from start to finish which could have gone either way it was Lea Dickinson who was the player in form on the night despite ending up on the losing side. Dickinson continued her good run of form for the Joggers by turning in an impressive performance to win all of her three matches, two of which were 5 set marathons with both Ewan Pickersgill and Rob Vaughan before comfortably dispatching Steve Elkin. All three Global players each beat Lewis Comley and Matthew Mudd before Comley and Mudd teamed up to beat Pickersgill and Elkin in the doubles which left the final result 6-4 in Globals favour.
The dark horses in Division One this season look to be Ryton Park Adders who after recently strengthening their side with the signing of Terry Emmerson made short work of DTH Redlands Roosters with Emmerson marking his debut for the Adders with a hat trick. He was well supported by Andy Lee and Mike Nocivelli who both added two wins each before Lee and Emmerson came together to win the doubles. For the Roosters Tom McIntosh added the scalp of Andy Lee whilst Steve Johnson defeated Nocivelli in an 8-2 defeat.
MBE got back to winning ways by comfortably beating Global Marble 'A' 8-2 with both Mark Stanfield and Craig Straw recording impressive hat tricks with Mick Bell only managing a solo win over Kartik Lakhani before losing out to both Kerry Harvey and Terry Curran.
DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys maintained their 100% start to the season with a straightforward 9-1 away win over Stanley Street 'A'. The Toys Richard Wesley and Peter Cowburn both comfortably beat all three Street players with Tom Wesley adding two wins with Cowburn and Richard Wesley also winning the doubles set. The only success on the night for Stanley Street was Peter Eyre's win over Tom Wesley.
In Division Three Stanley Street Rascals enjoyed only their 2nd win of the season with a 9-1 victory over an improving Ryton Park Falcons team. For the Rascals Thomas Gladwin and Harry Downing were the in-form players remaining unbeaten with Macauley Bartrop chipping in with two wins before Gladwin and Downing teamed up to take the doubles. Jordan Potter was the only success on the night for the Rascals beating Bartrop with both his team mates Jak Eden and Scott Lee going home empty handed.
