Stanley Street On The Brink Of Title
Division Two side Stanley Street 'A' have all but secured the Division Two title and with it a return to the top division at the first time of asking. Despite only being able to field two players in their match with Manton Sports they still had too much fire power for a spirited Manton side. Peter Eyre did what he's done in every league match this season and won all his three games and he was joined by Paul Linfield who also remained unbeaten although he did need 5 sets to defeat Keith Smith. Both Eyre and Linfield eased past the other Sports players in John McClellan and Phil Fisher without any trouble and then teamed up in the doubles to beat Smith and Fisher in straight sets to win the match 7-3. This result now means that they would have to lose all their remaining 3 matches and second place DTH Redlands Red Bulls would have to win all their 4 remaining games to stop Stanley Street taking the title and considering Stanley Street have won 18 out of 18 league games this season it's a very very unlikely scenario.
In the battle at the bottom of Division Three Centre For Sport welcomed Ryton Park Dragons as the bottom two sides met in what turned out to be a fabulous match. Man Of The Match was undoubtedly The Dragon's Justin Flear who recorded a fabulous hat trick which turned out to be the main factor in his team gaining a valuable point to ensure that his side stay just ahead of Centre For Sport and keep their opponents rooted to the bottom of the table. Flear was ably supported by brothers Luke and Lee Banton who both managed to beat Sarah Thompson to ensure that the spoils were shared. Luke Banton's win over Thompson would have been extra sweet for him as it was his first win of the season. Centre For Sport's other two players Glen Gilgrass and Aydon Baker both played well managing to register two wins each before teaming up in the all important doubles rubber to beat Flear and Lee Banton to make the final match score 5-5.
Centre For Sport who played two matches in three days didn't have as much success in their second game as they came up against champions DTH Redlands X-Youth. Both Jeff Reay and Clive Eden for X-Youth had too much for Sport and both claimed comfortable hat tricks with fellow team mate Jak Eden losing out to all three Sports players in Baker. Gilgrass and Thompson with Thompson finally gaining her first win of the season. Father and Son Clive and Jak Eden then won the doubles to register a 7-3 win for X-Youth.
Elsewhere in Division Three DTH Redlands Dynamos have had a good season and in Kieran Tutter they have a player that will surely go on to play in a higher division before too long. Kieran who has put in some very consistent performances this season gained another solid hat trick and with brothers Regan and Nathan Langley adding two wins each the result against club colleagues DTH Redlands Rascals never looked in doubt. The Rascal's Liam Stead played well to beat both Langley brothers but it wasn't enough to stop his team going down 8-2.
A couple of reminders, firstly for any players that won trophies last season you will need to return them to any league official ASAP please and secondly that you can still practice on Saturday mornings at either Worksop Leisure Centre and Redlands Schools.
