Street Party As Williams Steers His Side To Division Three Title

Stanley Street 'D' have been crowned Division Three Champions after an amazing run of results propelled them to the top of the table and subsequently the Division Three title. Captain Glyn Williams and his team have remained unbeaten in their last 17 league games with their last defeat coming way back in the middle of October of last year and in their title decider against DTH Redlands Babies, who themselves could still clinch promotion and also take the title from Street 'D' they knew that a draw would be enough to secure the title. Street 'D' put in a real team effort that saw Glyn Williams, Andrew Agnew and Lee Webb all register two wins each as all three of them beat Greg Suchalski and Jack Tarr in a 6-4 win to be crowned worthy champions of Division Three. The Tarr Babies Josh Nelson had yet another great night as he won all his three games to crown a great season personally winning 49 out of his 54 games and then teamed up with Jack Tarr to take the doubles set.
Although the Tarr Babies could no longer win the Division Three title they still had hopes of clinching the last promotion spot but were reliant on Stanley Street Rascals doing them a huge favour by beating Stanley Street Cypriots. In a fabulous match which was nip and tuck throughout the Rascals players did their utmost to obtain the victory and none more so than Liam Stead  who played tremendously to win all his three games but it wasn't enough to drag his side to victory as the Cypriots hit back to grab a 5-5 draw. For the Cypriots both Mitchell Radford and Graham Stent both beat the Rascals Ellis Spacey and Harry Downing and when Tom Parker also beat Spacey it was enough to give the Cypriots the point they needed to clinch promotion to Division Two.
Into Division Two and despite already clinching the Division Two title Manton Nomads didn't take their foot off the gas and had a terrific match with Runners Up Ryton Park Eagles. The Eagles Brian Allen was the player of the match winning all his three games with John Hallgarth and Keith Swift both adding further wins over the Nomad's Richard Robinson to clinch a draw for the Eagles. Steve Elkin and Rob Vaughan both won two each and then teamed up to win the doubles against Allen and Hallgarth to end the match all square at 5-5.
Two days later the Nomads then enjoyed a comfortable 7-3 win away at DTH Redlands X-Youth as both Rob Vaughan and Steve Elkin registered hat tricks with the only joy for X-Youth coming when Jeff Reay and Mark Bloomer both beat Richard Robinson and then Reay and Bloomer beat Elkin and Vaughan in the doubles.
DTH Redlands Rookies finished their first ever season in Division Two off well as they hammered bottom side Ryton Park Cougars 9-1. Both Derek Piper and Alan Keeling registered hat tricks and Alan Brown won two losing out to Dave Rix with the Rookies adding the doubles to seal the victory and take all 3 points. In their next match however they faced a much sterner test as they came up against Stanley Street 'C' and despite some really close games on the night they ended up going down 7-3 but not before the ever improving George Agnew had beaten all three Street players in Andy Kirkland, Martynas Riauba and Paul Linfield with his win over Linfield being the match of the night as Agnew came back from 2-1 down to win 11-6 in the deciding 5th set. However Agnew's team mates couldn't match his performance with both Derek Piper and Bob Atkinson who was playing his first match of the season after returning from injury losing all their games.
Elsewhere in Division Two Manton Sports had a good win away at Stanley Street 'B' to finish their league campaign in their highest position for a few seasons with new signing James Weston helping their cause. Weston again had a good night as he managed to beat all three Street 'B' players in Adam Hamilton, Ralph Rodda and Glyn Payne and when Alan Wilson and Keith Smith also defeated Payne it was down to the doubles rubber to decide the outcome of the match as it was delicately poised at 5-4 to Sports . With the calibre of Smith and Weston as a doubles pairing Street 'B' were always going to be staring down the barrel of defeat and this proved to be the case as Smith and Weston beat Hamilton and Payne in straight sets to secure a 6-4 win. Rodda and Hamilton both won two games each for Street 'B' but Payne had to sadly go home empty handed.
