Tarr Babies Come Of Age And Claim Division Three Title
After finishing runners-up last season DTH Redlands Tarr Babies have gone one better this season after being crowned Division Three Champions. Captain Jack Tarr has steered his young team fabulously having only lost one league match all season and only dropping 19 sets in the process. The Tarr Babies clinched the title with yet another convincing win, this time over Ryton Park Cougars with both Keiran Tutter and Daniel Cutts once again registering hat tricks with the only blot on the score sheet for the Tarr Babies being Josh Nelson's 5 set defeat to Ivan Stallworthy. Neither of Stallworthy's fellow team mates could trouble the scorers with both Dave Rix and Connor Bettley leaving empty handed. Captain Jack Tarr then teamed up with Tutter to take the doubles match to cement a 9-1 win and crown a fabulous season for the Tarr Babies.
Whilst the Tarr Babies were celebrating their title triumph their nearest rivals who had pushed them all the way were cementing the runners-up spot. Stanley Street 'C' who will be disappointed not to have won the title themselves can be well satisfied with their season having also reached the final of the MBE Trophy and are also in the semi-finals of the Handicap Shield. In their latest league match they were up against an improving Ryton Park Falcons side in Nathan and Regan Langley along with Jordan Potter and although all three battled hard throughout only Nathan Langley had any success as he beat both Glyn Williams and Martynas Riauba before losing out to Valentinas Riauba. Both Williams and Martynas Riauba won two each with Valentinas registering yet another hat trick before Orestas and Valentinas Riauba teamed up to take the doubles to secure an 8-2 victory.
Elsewhere in Division Three On-Line Elks finally started to catch up on their matches with a fine 9-1 win over Ryton Park Dragons. Both Jayden Budworth and Neil Houghton remained unbeaten all night and were well supported by Glen Gillgrass who managed to win two of his three games only losing out to Lee Banton in a 5 set thriller which Banton finally won 11-9 in the deciding set with Lee's brother Luke and Jack Lennon not being able to trouble the scorers on this occasion.
In Division Two Global Marble 'B' continued their recent good form with a 7-3 win over bottom side Manton Sports. The men in form for Marble were Steve Elkin and Dilip Malkan who both beat all three Sports players in Alan Wilson, Keith Smith and Phil Fisher with Wilson being the stand out player for Sports taking both Elkin and Malkan to 5 sets. All three Sports players went on to beat Ewan Pickersgill before Pickersgill teamed up with Malkan to beat Smith and Fisher in the doubles. The defeat now leaves Sports 3 points adrift at the bottom of the table and with only 4 league matches left they are now starting to run out of games to close the gap on the teams above.
After the Fluffy Toys clinched the Division One title last week all that's left to play for in Division One is the Runners Up spot with MBE managing to close the gap on Global Marble 'A' who currently occupy second place to 5 points after their win over Stanley Street 'A'. For MBE Mark Stanfield followed up his fabulous win last week over the previously unbeaten Richard Wesley with another fine performance securing another hat trick in straight sets. Not to be outdone by his team mate Andrew Cave did the same but he had to endure a 5 set marathon with Peter Eyre to do so, finally winning 11-7 in the deciding set. Eyre went one better over MBE's Mick Bell winning himself in 5 sets to register Street's only success on the night after both his team mates Nigel Stent and Matthew Williams not managing to win a game. Special mention must go to Williams who was playing up from Division Two and although he lost all his three games he certainly didn't disgrace himself. Williams then teamed up with Stent for the doubles and they put up a great fight against Bell and Stanfield before losing 3-1 and subsequently the match by a 9-1 score line.
May I remind all players that the League is going to be running a Summer League at the end of the regular season, please see website for details.
