Tarr Babies In Title Hunt
In a week when no less than four unbeaten records went DTH Redlands Tarr Babies ramped up their challenge for the Division Three title by beating the league leaders and previously unbeaten Sparken Hill Falcons who were many peoples tip for the title before the season began and after starting the season with three wins from their opening three games it looked like they were going to prove everyone right. The Tarr Babies were having none of it and their win was a real team effort with all three players in Roman Rosser, Keith Bloomfield and Adam Pinches all making vital contributions to their victory. The improving Rosser won two of his three games beating Luke Barraclough and Mick Potter but losing out to Jordan Potter. Adam Pinches also defeated tow of the Falcons in Barraclough and Jordan Potter before Bloomfield added a solo win over Jordan Potter. In tight matches the doubles which is played at match 7 always seems to be a pivotal match on the night and this once again proved to be the case as Rosser and Pinches beat the Potters to give them the Tarr Babies a 4-3 lead and the momentum going into the latter stages of the match which eventually saw them run out 6-4 winners.
Worksop Welfare Harriers ‘B’ moved up to second place in Division Three with their second win on the trot. The Harriers side consisting of Dean Marsh, Dan Saul and Graham Stent brushed aside their opponents The Real Deal with Dan Saul applying his magic to the table by registering a solid hat trick defeating The Deals Adam Kijak, Tom Ogley and Glen Gillgrass and he was well supported by Stent and Marsh as they added two wins each before Saul and Marsh teamed up to take the doubles and to eventually run out 8-2 winners. Gillgrass and Kijak added a win each for the Real Deal.
Another unbeaten record fell this week as Worksop Welfare Snipers came unstuck away at Sparken Hill Ospreys in a match that really could have gone either way. For the Vultures Rob Vaughan won all his three games defeating Erlands Skels, Tony Swain and Jim Westwood but not without the help of the odd net and edge here and there! Steve Elkin and Ben Crapper both beat Tony Swain to take their teams score to 5 and when Elkin and Vaughan beat Skels and Swain in the doubles it was just enough to get them over the line to record a 6-4 win. Skels and Westwood both had good nights for the Snipers recording two wins each which could have easily been three.
Other Division Two Results: Worksop Welfare Harriers 4 Stanley Street ‘B’ 6, DTH Redlands Rookies 9 Sparken Hill Blue Jays 1, Sparken Hill Eagles 5 Manton Tigers 5.
Two other unbeaten records went this week and they were both in Division One and both were DTH Redlands teams that lost them. First up were The Roosters who were away at Worksop Miners Welfare for whom Richard Element switched on his A game to put his side firmly in the driving seat after defeating Steve Fox, Rick Harris and Worksop Masters Champion Ernest Mpundu. Although Element remained unbeaten on the night it wasn’t a one man show as both Mark Stanfield and Dave Marsh chipped in with vital wins with Stanfield beating Fox and Harris before Marsh defeated Fox. Element and Stanfield then paired up to beat Fox and Mpundu in straight sets to add the doubles to their singles successes and record a 7-3 victory.
Perhaps the biggest surprise regarding unbeaten runs ending was DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys who probably thought that they would rack up another win and another 3 points against Sparken Hill Buzzards but they hadn’t reckoned on all three Buzzards being on top form! Chris Cattell, Terry Emmerson and Steve Lyon all won two games each for the Buzzards with Cattell and Lyon teaming up to win the doubles. The scorers for Fluffy Toys were Walker 2, Anthony 1 with Steve Johnson going home without a win on this occasion.
Other Division One Results: Stanley Street ‘A’ 7 Sparken Hill Ospreys 3, DTH Redlands Monsters 9 Sparken Hill Starlings 1.
