Things Starting To Get Interesting At The Top Of Division Three

Worksop Cypriots 'A' threw the race for the Division Three title wide open this week as they inflicted the first league defeat of the season on Sparken Hill Blue Jays. Their comprehensive 8-2 victory came mainly courtesy of hat tricks for both Nigel Stent and Farhad Saiepour, with Saiepour now making it 36 out of 36 singles wins in the league. Kay Wilson added a single victory over Dave Rix but she couldn't repeat the feat against either Connor Bettley or Ivan Stallworthy. Stent and Saiepour then teamed up to give Stallworthy and Dave Lee a bit of a hiding in the doubles winning in straight sets. The win for the Cypriots now puts them 9 points clear at the top but the Blue Jays do have 3 games in hand and they win them all they will be level on points with Cypriots 'A'.
Worksop Welfare Cypriots 'B' kept themselves in the hunt for the title with a 9-1 win over Sparken Hill Hawks with Dean Marsh and Dan Saul leading the way with impressive hat tricks with Nick Sievewright adding wins over Lee Banton and Sam McFarland before losing out to Brian Hall in a 5 set thriller. Saul and Graham Stent then took the doubles against Banton and McFarland to complete the Hawk's misery.
DTH Redlands Tarr Babies got back to winning way this week with a comprehensive and fairly straightforward 10-0 win over their club colleagues the Red Devils. There were hat tricks all round for Keith Bloomfield, Adam Pinches and Roman Rosser with Pinches and Rosser taking the doubles set to complete the whitewash. The Red Devils trio of Phil Daly, Cliff Briggs and Harry Clarke shouldn't get too downhearted as the first ever season playing league table tennis is always the toughest and they can all take heart from some spirited performances so far this season.
The closest game in Division Three this week was between Sparken Hill Falcons and Worksop Owls and could have been even closer than the final the 7-3 scoreline to the Falcons. Mick Potter, Kyle Moore and Jordan Potter all beat Finlay Coburn and Harry Beer but couldn't stop the Man Of The Match Louis Spray as he won all his three games for the Owls side. Spray then teamed up with Jasper Turner in the doubles but couldn't quite do enough to defeat Mick and Jordan Potter.
