Tom Cruises To Impressive Hat-Trick

DTH Redlands Roosters are on the brink of retaining their Division One title after beating one of their closest rivals DTH Redlands Monsters 8-2. Tom McIntosh made a welcome return for the Roosters after deciding to stop playing altogether earlier in the season and despite not playing in over three months he still managed to beat all three of the Riauba brothers who make up the Monsters team. McIntosh defeated both Martynas and Valentinas in straight sets before coming from 2-1 down to beat Orestas 3-2 to complete his hat trick. Ernest Mpundu also won all his three singles games before teaming up with McIntosh to also win the doubles against Valentinas and Orestas. Steve Fox completed the scoring for the Roosters when he registered his one and only win on the night when he beat Martynas. The in leaves the Roosters just one win away from clinching their third Division One title in a row.
As issues were becoming a little clearer at the top end of the table, the bottom half had some definite clarity to it as Sparken Hill Ospreys loss to their club colleagues the Buzzards meant that they would finish in the bottom two along with DTH Redlands X-Youth and would be contemplating life in Division Two next season. Chris Cattell and Terry Emmerson both won all their three singles games for the Buzzards beating Simon Chatterton, Kalpesh Bhatt and Andy Thorley with the only joy coming for the Ospreys when Chatterton and Bhatt both defeated Kartik Lakhani. Cattell and Emmerson teamed up to take the doubles game against Bhatt and Thorley in straight sets to put the icing on the cake of an 8-2 victory.
Sparken Hill Starlings who were also looking over their shoulders at the relegation trap door for the best part of this season knew that even if the Ospreys beat the Buzzards and closed the gap to just three points to them they would have to then beat DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys in their final match to have a chance of catching them and that was a very tall order indeed! The Starlings were away at Worksop Welfare and as they were almost safe from relegation they could play a player up from the Division below in Keith Swift rather than cancel the match, so they could play a full-strength team in the next few weeks. The Starlings went down 7-3 to the Welfare side who again had Richard Element on top form to register yet another hat trick to set the Welfare side on their way to victory. Element was well supported by Dave Marsh who beat Kurt Hutson and Swift but lost out to Andy Lee. Phil Walton added a single win over Swift before Element and Marsh took the doubles match in straight sets against Hutson and Lee.

The race for the Division Three title became a lot clearer this week as Sparken Hill Falcons comprehensive 10-0 win over The Real Deal meant that if they win their last match against DTH Redlands Red Devils they will be crowned Division Three Champions. In their comfortable win over the Real Deal there were hat-tricks all round for Neil Penny, Luke Barraclough and Mick Potter with Penny and Barraclough adding the doubles to complete the rout with only one match on the night not won in straight sets.
Worksop Welfare Harriers ‘B’ did themselves and the Falcons a favour by beating DTH Redlands Tarr Babies who have games in hand on all the top three teams and could have made a late title challenge themselves. Paul Linfield did most of the damage for the Harriers as he beat Adam Pinches, Keith Bloomfield and Roman Rosser and he had plenty of support from Neil Fisher who beat Bloomfield and Rosser with his win against Bloomfield being the last match of the night which secured the overall victory. Fisher also had a hand in the doubles as he and Nick Sievewright defeated Pinches and Rosser in straight sets to complete the scoring in a close 6-4 win.
DTH Redlands Demolition Men can snatch the title out of the Falcons hands if they win their last two matches and results go for them. This week they completed a comfortable 9-1 win away at Sparken Hill Hawks with three wins each for Perry Bradford, Bob Atkinson and Ethan Shevill against a Hawks team of Paul and Tom Wendon and Lee Banton. The only joy the Hawks had came when Tom Wendon and Lee Banton beat Atkinson and Shevill in the doubles.
At the other end of the table DTH Redlands Red Devils and Worksop Owls were playing for pride and in a very close match the Red Devils managed to run out 6-4 winners. Dave Lyus with 3, Cliff Briggs with 2 and the doubles gave the Red Devils their win. For the Owls Jasper Turner played well as he beat both Briggs and Harry Clarke before losing to Lyus. Harry Beer and Finlay Coburn both beat Clarke to complete the scoring for the Owls.
