Toys Kick Off Their Title Defence With A Win

Last year's Division One Champions DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys started the defence of their title with a comprehensive away win over relegation candidates Ryton Park Addders. Despite the Toys being without last season's Open Singles winner Richard Wesley due to a broken hand they still managed to comfortably slip past the Adders with ease. Team captain Steve Walker showed the way with a fine hat trick and not to be outdone Steve Fox also weighed in with a three wins as well. Although the match was a little closer than the score line suggested only Mike Nocivelli managed to win a set for the Adders when he overcame Tom Wesley in 5 sets but neither Andy Lee or John Hallgarth could trouble the scores on this occasion. Fox and Walker teamed up to comfortably win the doubles set against Nocivelli and Hallgarth.
Despite the Toys win it is their club colleagues The Outlaws that head Division One after making it two wins from two games so far this season. Their latest win came against DTH Redlands Joggers who for the 2nd week running find themselves on the end of a narrow 6-4 defeat. For the Outlaws Chris Cattell continued with his unbeaten start to the season with another hat trick with Helmuth Osbourne supporting him with two wins and then they joined together to win the doubles to ensure the win. For the Joggers Peter Cowburn, Terry Emmerson and Tom McIntosh all beat Lea Dickinson who was playing up from Division Two with Cowburn also going on to defeat Osbourne 3-1 in a close game.

Division Two
The team that got relegated from Division One last season currently sit proudly at the top of Division Two. Stanley Street 'A' have started their quest for an immediate return to the top division with a bang, this week by going one better than last week's 9-1 win and walloping their 'B' team 10-0. Comfortable maximums all round for the 'A' team with Nigel Stent, Peter Eyre and Alex Millward all finding little resistance from their 'B' team side of Ray Lucas, Glyn Williams and Andy Kirkland. Stent and Eyre combined in the doubles to compound their 'B' teams misery by defeating Lucas and Williams in straight sets.
DTH Redlands Morris Men got their league of the mark with a win over Manton Sports. Kyle McIntosh and Keith Bloomfield were both on top form for the Morris Men both registering fine hat tricks. All McIntosh's wins impressively came in straight sets but Bloomfield's were a different story entirely with close games against all three Sports players which included a mammoth 5 set battle with Keith Smith. Smith however did go on to register a win over Ewan Pickersgill who Phil Fisher also managed to beat. Apart from the doubles these were the only games that Sports managed to win before finally going down 7-3.

Division Three
The surprise leaders in Division Three are DTH Redlands X-Youth. After their fine win last week against Redlands Rascals they followed it up with another win against DTH Redlands Cypriots. Hat tricks for both Jeff Wray and Clive Eden set up their win with none of the Cypriots able to trouble them on the night. Wray and Eden then teamed up to win the doubles to cap a fine 7-3 win and to go top of the division. The Cypriots team of Jason Poole, Conor Bell and Adam Hamilton all registered wins against Jak Eden but in the end it wasn't enough to avoid defeat.
