X-Youth Register First Win Of Season
Division Two side Carlton X-Youth got their first win of the season at the fourth time of asking. Their win came against bottom side Worksop Welfare Harriers and has lifted them up to a mid-table position. Simon Hooley put in a Man of The Match performance by defeating all three Harriers in Neil Fisher, Dan Saul and Dennis Learad. Hooley was well supported by both Mark Bloomer and Mark Cooper who both enjoyed wins over Saul and Fisher both losing out to Learad. Hooley and Cooper completed the scoring by beating Saul and Fisher in the doubles to complete a much needed 8-2 victory.
Another side who find themselves at the wrong end of the Division Two table are Worksop Welfare Cannon and their efforts to climb away from trouble weren’t helped this week by having to play a player up from Division Three against the 2nd placed team Manton Sports. Kay Wilson and Perry Bradford were joined by Jerry Collins from the division below and they put in a spirited effort against their more illustrious opponents but upsetting the form book never looked lightly. Both Wilson and Bradford managed to beat Sports John Lowde, but they were the last wins they managed as both Keith Smith and Stuart Element both remained unbeaten and then teamed up to take the doubles game against Wilson and Bradford to complete an 8-2 win.
Worksop Welfare Snipers ‘B’ continue to set the pace at the top of the Division and after beating Manton Tigers this week they stretched their lead at the top to 6 points although they have played a game more than most other teams. The main contributor to their victory was George Makrakis who beat all three Tigers in Ron Firth, Steve Beeston and Dave Bowns. Paul Linfield added two wins beating Beeston and Bowns with Mitchell Radford adding a solo win over Beeston. Radford and Linfield teamed up to beat Beeston and Bowns in the doubles to cement a 7-3 win.
Perhaps the best individual performance of the week in Division Two came in the match between Sparken Hill Eagles and Stanley Street ‘B’ with Alex Olliffe registering a terrific hat trick with wins over Chris Tilstone, Dave Hodgkin and Mark Sansom which helped his side to a narrow 6-4 win. The win was a real team performance as Brian Allen beat Hodgkin and Tilstone before Keith Swift chipped in with a win against Tilstone and despite Olliffe and Allen losing the doubles to Hodgkin and Sansom they still ran out the winners of the match.
DTH Redlands Rovers are the current leaders of Division Three and they continued their good form this week by beating the bottom side in the division Sparken Hill Nightingales 8-2. DTH Redlands Rookies are chasing the Rovers down and they enjoyed a 10-0 win whitewashing DTH Redlands Tarr Babies. DTH Redlands Mean Machine moved into mid-table with a well earned 7-3 victory against Worksop Welfare Real Deal.
The race for the Division One title continued this week with Worksop Miners Welfare getting their season back on track with a superb 6-4 win over previously unbeaten DTH Redlands Monsters. Another side slipping up this week were defending champions DTH Redlands Roosters who were held to a draw by Stanley Street ‘A’. One Redlands side that have managed to stay unbeaten are the Fluffy Toys who made it 4 wins from 4 as they beat Worksop Welfare Snipers ‘A’ 9-1.
In the first ever battle of the Clowne’s it was Clowne ‘A’ who came out on top beating Clowne ‘B’ by a scoreline of 8-2.
