Zygabytes Extend Lead At Top
Zygabytes have extended their lead at the top of Division One to five points with a hard fought win over DTH Redlands Roosters. In a close match from start to finish Zygabytes were never more than one set in front until the deciding set at the end of the match and it needed all their battling qualities to see them through. Both Dean Brookes and Joe Zygadlo both won two sets each with Bob Hume adding a further set with Brookes and Hume teaming up to take the doubles as well. By far the most crucial set of the match was the last one of the night, with Zygabytes leading 5-4 it was left to Dean Brookes and the Roosters Dave Gascoyne to do battle to decide the outcome of the match but with Brookes hitting top form just at the right time he comfortably took the set and therefore all three points for the win. Scorers for the Roosters were Rick Harris and Sarah Short who both won 2 each.
Global Marble leapfrogged DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys into 2nd place with a win over relegation battlers Ryton Park Bees in a match that the Bees could have well done without losing in their battle to beat the drop. For Global both Kerry Radford and Steve Lyon each registered fine hat tricks with Rob Vaughan adding a solo win over Matt Lemon. Radford and Lyon then teamed up to take the doubles against Lemon and Joe Else to enable Global to coast to a comfortable 8-2 win. The only success for the Bees were wins over Vaughan for both Else and Brian Allen.
One of the most intriguing battles of the season is the relegation dog fight in between DTH Redlands Morris Men and Manton Sports in Division Two with only a single point between the two teams. This week's chances of Manton Sports adding to their points tally so far this season looked extremely remote as they came up against unbeaten table toppers Stanley Street 'A'. In a very one sided match the Sports trio of John Lowde, Alan Wilson and John McClellan could do nothing to trouble the scorers going down 10-0 and with 8 of the 10 games being lost in straight sets it was a tough night for Sports who must now look to their upcoming games to try and scramble enough points together to beat the drop into Division Three. For Stanley Street it was hat tricks all round for Matt Fowkes, Alex Millward and the unbeaten Peter Eyre who has now won 30 from 30 league games so far this season.
Manton Tigers had an excellent win this week over DTH Redlands Geriatrics who sit two places above them in the league table. Dave Bowns and Paul Allison were the star performers on the night each gaining excellent hat tricks which set the Tigers on their way to a 7-3 victory which cements their mid table position. For the Geriatrics Amber Zygadlo, Jim Kenny and Dennis Learad all had wins over the Tiger's Phil Hall before Hall and Bowns teamed up to take the doubles set against Zygadlo and Kenny in a five set thriller.
Other Division Two Result: Stanley Street 'B' 1 DTH Redlands Red Bull 9
In Division Three DTH Redlands Tarr Babies kept up the pressure on leaders DTH Redlands X-Youth with the narrowest of victories over DTH Redlands Dynamos. Although the Tarr Babies ran out 6-4 winners they certainly didn't have it all their own way. The ever improving Keiran Tutter registered a fabulous treble that almost resulted in the Dynamos snatching an unlikely draw. Tutter had wins over Matthew Mudd, Lewis Comley and Antony Coupe before pairing up with Nathan Langley to win the doubles but it just wasn't enough to snatch a draw. The Tarr Babies trio of Mudd, Comley and Coupe all gained two wins each all beating Langley and Keiran's Father Kash to take all 3 points for the win.
