Snipers Have Division Two Title In Their Sights

Worksop Welfare Sniper ‘B’ have made a rapid-fire start to their Division Two campaign winning their third league match in a row this week. The Snipers pulled a match forward from Week 7 to Week 2 and played two games on the same night alongside their scheduled match. Their scheduled match was against club Worksop Welfare Cannon and the Snipers trio of Mitchell Radford, George Makrakis and Paul Linfield had little resistance from the Cannon side with Radford and Makrakis defeating all three Cannon players in Nick Sievewright, Dilip Malkan and Kay Wilson, the only stumbling block came when Linfield lost to Malkan but he did make amends in the doubles as he and Nigel Stent beat Sievewright and Perry Bradford I the doubles to secure a comfortable 9-1 win.

Roosters Start Defence Of Division One Title With Win

DTH Redlands Roosters got their league season off to a good start with a comfortable 9-1 win over newly promoted Worksop Welfare Simpers ‘A’. Ernest Mpundu and Rick Harris both remained unbeaten on the night with Mpundu’ s hat trick being a little more comfortable than Harris’s. Mpundu had comfortable straight sets wins over all three Snipers in Jim Westwood, Russ Webster and Erlands Skels whereas Harris had a little more trouble. Harris beat Westwood in three straight sets but each one went to deuce and on a different night they could all have gone a different way. Harris also defeated Skels in straight sets but again he had to dig in to do so winning all three games 11-9. Russ Webster also troubled Harris and managed to take a set off of him before going down 3-1. The Roosters third player was Steve Fox who comfortably beat both Westwood…full report »

Jack Raises The Bar In Hard Bat Competition

After playing some wonderful attacking table tennis Jack Kirkland was crowned the winner of this year’s Hard Bat Competition.
The standard of play from Kirkland with the Hard Bat was top drawer and if he reaches this kind of level year in year out he could reign supreme for many years to come and other players will have to up their game to compete with him.
The competition which was held at Worksop Leisure Centre is the ‘curtain raiser’ to the league season that starts next week attracted 24 players which were split into 4 groups with players being seeded according to their ability and previous results using the hard bat which has short pimples on both sides with no sponge beneath them.

Peter Eyre was seeded number one and came through Group A remaining unbeaten along the way to comfortably qualify for the quarter finals. Joining him in…full report »

Hawks Swoop To Clinch Cup Double

Sparken Hill Hawks enjoyed more cup success this week by beating DTH Redlands Demolition Men to add the Mike Tunningley Handicap Shield to the MBE Handicap Trophy they won two weeks ago.
In a close game on the table, the Hawks trio of Paul Wendon, Tom Wendon and Scott Lee triumphed against their opponents despite finishing 17 points behind them in the Division Three table. The Demolition Men knew before the game started that they would have to give away a number of points to the Hawks via the handicapping system so knew that they would have to amass enough points on the table to cover the deficit.
The night started well for the Demolition Men as Perry Bradford got their task underway by beating Paul Wendon by 14 points and when Derek Piper beat Tom Wendon by 13 points it put the Demolition Men 27 points ahead…full report »
