Real North Notts 'A' Finally Off The Mark

The New Boys in Division Two Real North Notts  'A' earned their first point of the season this week in a real battle with Manton Tigers. Despite the Tigers Ron Firth registering a very solid hat trick Real North Notts managed to come away with a very creditable draw against much more experienced  opponents. Dave Piper set Notts on their way with good wins over Bill Bateman and Steve Beeston with both of his team mates Jonno Blood and Lewis Linacre also defeating Beeston and once Piper and Linacre won the doubles against Bateman and Firth the draw was secured. However, despite gaining their first point of the season that still remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
League leaders DTH Redlands X-Youth had a double boost this week, after defeating Manton Sports earlier in the week 8-2 it was announced that Stanley Street 'B' who were the only team that they had lost to all season have had to pull out of the league as they were struggling to put a full team out each week. This all meant that their loss against Stanley Street would become null and void as would all Stanley Street's results and consequently widened the gap between themselves and the chasing pack. Their win against Manton Sports came on the back of hat tricks for both Clive Eden  and Mark Bloomer with Jeff Reay having to settle for two wins over Keith Smith and Richard Robinson and a loss against James Weston. Smith and Weston then teamed up to take the doubles against Eden and Bloomer but it was all too little too late to effect the outcome of the match.
Sparken Hill Eagles continue to chase X-Youth and like their title rivals, still have a 100% record due to Stanley Street withdrawing from the league. Their latest win came against DTH Redlands Rookies who themselves maintained their own 100% record this week as they once again were involved in a match which had an 8-2 scoreline for the 6th match in a row! For the Eagles both Brian Allen and James Wormwell remained unbeaten in the singles whilst Mark Fisher only managed a solo win over Derek Piper losing out to the two Chris's, Clemson and Cutts with Wormwell and Fisher adding the doubles to finish the scoring.
In the battle of the two Worksop Welfare Snipers teams it was Snipers 'C' who came out on top and along with it the bragging rights over their club colleagues Snipers 'B'. Despite the win for the 'C' team it was Mark Sansom from Snipers 'B' who was the Man Of The Match beating all three of the 'C' team in Ralph Rodda, George Makrakis and Adam Hamilton. Despite Sansom's efforts his team mates couldn't match his exploits as both Chris Tilstone and Jeremy Hollins lost all of their games and despite Sansom and Tilstone winning the doubles it wasn't quite enough to stop Snipers 'C' running out 6-4 winners.
Perhaps the performance of the week came in Division One as title challengers DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys came unstuck against Manton Nomads in a 7-3 defeat. For the Nomads it was Chris Cattell and Sarah Short that did the damage as they both defeated all three Toys players in Steve Walker, Farrell Anthony and Steve Johnson with the Nomads Kartik Lakhani not managing to register a win. Cattell and Short then did it again in the doubles beating Johnson and Anthony in 4 sets. Despite the loss Fluffy Toys still remain top but they have played more games than the three teams  behind them.
