Toys Pull Four Points Clear At The Top

Reigning Division One Champions DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys have put some daylight between themselves and their nearest title challengers with a comfortable 9-1 win over bottom side Manton Tigers. Siblings Richard and Tom Wesley both returned hat tricks and rarely looked troubled all night by the Tigers trio of Bill Bateman, Paul Allison and Steve Beeston but the same couldn't be said for Toys third player Steve Johnson. Johnson was first taken the distance against Paul Allison, managing to win the deciding set 14-12 but then against Bateman and despite being 2-1 ahead he couldn't repeat the feat a second time eventually losing 3-2. Bateman's excellent win was the only success on the night for the Tigers as they went on to lose the doubles set and with it the match 9-1.

Eyre Furnishes His Front Room With Hard Bat Trophy

After losing in the final for the last three years Peter Eyre finally got his name back on the trophy that he last won back in the 2010/11 season and has now featured in eight finals of the Hard Bat Trophy. Eyre featured in Group B in the first round of the competition and comfortably dispatched Adam Hamilton 21-5, Clive Eden 21-13, Connor Bettley 21-13 and Luke Barraclough 21-8 to top his group to make it into the semi finals with Clive Eden also making it through as Group runner-up.
In Group A Jeff Reay and Mark Bloomer showed the rest a clean pair of heels as they both qualified for the semi finals with 63 and 62 points respectively with Tom Parker and Matthew Williams languishing in 3rd and 4th spots.
In the semi finals Eyre took no time at all in dispatching a spirited Mark Bloomer…full report »

Four Way Battle At The Top Of Three

Possibly the most interesting title/promotion run in for many a year is starting to unfold in Division Three with just 2 points separating the top four places with Stanley Street Cypriots really putting the cat amongst the pigeons with their victory over former league leaders Stanley Street Rascals. The player of the match was the Cypriots Tom Parker who returned an impressive hat trick of wins over Liam Stead, Thomas Gladwin and Harry Downing with his game against Stead being a real tight affair before he finally won it in the 4th set. Parker was well supported by George Makrakis who had wins over both Stead and Downing with Graham Stent adding a solo win over Downing to leave the Cypriots with an unassailable 6-3 lead before Parker teamed up with Mitchell Radford to win the doubles to put the icing on the cake of a very good 7-3 victory.…full report »

On-line Elks Up For The Cup

There was a break from the usual promotion and relegation battles of the League this week as the Divisional Handicap cup competitions took centre stage with On-Line Elks hitting top form in the MBE Trophy for 3rd Division teams. The Elks team of Jonno Blood, Glenn Gillgrass and Jerry Collins were up against Ryton Park Falcons who despite being bottom of the division put up a terrific fight. The Elks had to give the Falcons a 33 point start after the handicaps were worked out and they soon set about reducing the deficit as Blood beat Jak Eden by 22 points and when Gillgrass beat Mick Potter by 20 points the deficit had been wiped out after only two of the 9 matches and the Elks were ahead by 9 points. Blood and Collins then beat Mick and Jordan Potter in one of the doubles sets by 10 points and…full report »

Smith And Weston Can't Fire The Bullets To Snatch Win For Sports

Keith Smith and James Weston couldn't find the ammunition in the deciding doubles set to fire Manton Sports to victory against DTH Redlands X-Youth in Division Two this week and had to settle for a share of the spoils instead. Despite being 5-4 in front going into the doubles, Smith and Weston couldn't beat Jeff Reay and Ewan Pickersgill to take all three points with Reay personally having a terrific night in registering an impressive hat trick of wins which went a long way in stopping the Sports taking all three points. Ewan Pickersgill added a further win over John Lowde to add to X-Youth's tally but Mark Bloomer went home empty handed losing all his three matches. For Sports both Smith and Weston won two each adding to Lowde's single win.
