Snipers Crowned Division Two Champions
Congratulations go to Worksop Welfare Snipers ‘B’ who secured the Division Two title this week in emphatic fashion with a 9-1 trouncing of Sparken Hill Eagles. The Snipers trio of George Makrakis, Mitchell Radford and Paul Linfield all remained unbeaten against the Eagles trio of Keith Swift, Lewis Linacre and Kathy McIntyre and even though both Linacre and McIntyre were both playing up from Division Three they still caused the Snipers team plenty of problems, especially McIntyre who took Linfield to a deciding game and was unlucky not to beat him. Swift also took Linfield to a deciding game with Linfield coming from 2-1 down to hit back to win it in the deciding 5th game. The only joy the Eagles got came via the doubles with Swift and McIntyre upsetting the odds by defeating Linfield and Makrakis in straight sets. Team Captain Nigel Stent who wasn’t playing in the…full report »

Monsters Edging Ever Closer To Title
As we start to get closer to the business end of the league season DTH Redlands Monsters are slowly but surely creeping towards their first ever Division One title. This week saw them overcome a potential banana skin in Worksop Miners Welfare with a narrow 6-4 win, this despite a hat trick from Welfare’s Richard Element. Element defeated all three Riauba brothers in Orestas, Valentinas and Martynas to give his side a chance of getting a result against the league leaders but in the end, it was all in vain as the Riauba brothers just did enough to get all three points. Valentinas and Orestas both defeated Chris Cattell and Dave Marsh with Martynas chipping in with a win over Marsh. As ever the doubles proved to be an important game to win and so it proved to be as Valentinas and Orestas beat Element and Cattell in straight sets…full report »
Annual Championships A Roaring Success
With over 60 players contesting 16 different competitions the Annual Championships were always going to be a long day and so it proved to be with a finish time of 7.20pm!
The day kicked off with the Open Doubles and it was a great sight to see 48 players across 12 tables playing some cracking table tennis.
The pre-tournament favourites for the Open Doubles Richard Element and John Davies made progress through the early rounds without too many issues winning their games in straight sets but when they reached the semi-final stage it was a different matter altogether. Farrell Anthony and Chris Cattell gave them a real scare before Element and Davies finally made it through to the final but had to do it the hard way by winning the deciding set in a 3-2 victory.
In the other half of the draw Rick Harris and Ernest Mpundu were mirroring…full report »
