New team to the Worksop Table Tennis League DTH Redlands Demolition Men kicked off the new league season with a fine debut win in Division Three over Worksop Owls. For the Blue Jays Connor Bettley once again remained unbeaten which gave his side a platform to build on and to go on to win the match and secure all three points. Bettley enjoyed straight sets wins over both Harry Beer and Jasper Turner and a 4 sets win over Louis Spray and he was well supported by Dave Lee and Dave Rix who both added two wins each to their names with Lee beating Turner and Beer whilst Rix defeated Beer and Spray in some…full report »
Greek Tragedy As Cypriots Slip Up In Title Race
Worksop Welfare Cypriots ‘A’ slipped to only their second defeat of the season and what a time to do it as it was their last match of the league season and knowing that a sizeable win would have put them in the driving seat to take the Division Three title. After dispatching Real North Notts ‘B’ 10-0 the previous week to put themselves at the top of the division on sets difference from Sparken Hill Blue Jays the Cypriot knew that a good win would put the pressure back on the Blue Jays. The Cypriots were up against Sparken Hill Falcons with home advantage and having Farhad Saiepour who hasn’t lost a game all season in their line-up they must have gone into the match full of confidence and fully expecting to win. Saiepour did his bit by beating all three Falcons in Mick Potter, Jordan Potter and Neil Penny…full report »
Roosters Crowing As They Win Division One Title!
DTH Redlands Roosters had reason to celebrate this week as they retained their Division One title without even lifting a bat! Worksop Miners Welfare ‘A’ were the only team that could mathematically catch the Roosters and whilst the Roosters had a blank week this week in the fixture list it was up to the Welfare ‘A’ side to keep the pressure up but they were unable to field their strongest side against Manton Nomads and it cost them dearly. The Roosters top player Richard Element was able to turn out and duly won his three singles matches beating Chris Cattell, Sarah Short and Ian Henderson along the way but that was where the scoring for the Welfare side ended as the Nomads trio all beat the Welfare’s other two players in Mick Bell and Stuart Element with Cattell and Short also winning the doubles against Richard Element and Mick Bell…full report »
