Roosters Make A Great Start
DTH Redlands Roosters got their Division One title defence to the perfect start with two wins out of two. Ironically both wins came against sides from Manton with the first one being away at Manton Misfits were they gave them a bit of a hammering whitewashing them 10-0. There were hat tricks all round for Ernest Mpundu, Clive Mitchell and Steve Fox.
In their second match the same three players did the business again as they enjoyed an 8-2 win over Manton Nomads with only Sarah Short causing the Roosters any real problems as she beat both Fox and Mitchell to ensure the Nomads avoid the same fate as their club colleagues.
The Roosters main title rivals this season will again be DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys who also got off to the perfect start and are now level on points at the top of the league with their…full report »
Eyre Crowned Hard Bat Champion...........Again!
Peter Eyre convincingly defended his Hard Bat title on a night that contained some fabulous table tennis from everyone who entered the competition. 20 players turned up to do battle at Worksop Leisure Centre in a competition that has now become the 'curtain raiser' to the new table tennis season in Worksop.
The players were seeded accordingly and split into 4 groups with the top two from each group going through to the quarter finals. Peter Eyre topped Group A with 5 wins out of 5 with Stuart Element coming Runner Up despite losing to Eyre after winning all his remaining games. Divisional Cup Finals Are All Tight Affairs
The curtain came down on the 2015/16 season this week with the finals of the Divisional Handicap Trophy Finals all being played on the same night at Worksop Leisure Centre.
This year's David Hooton Trophy Final for first division teams was played out between Stanley Street 'A' and Ryton Park Eagles with the Street side looking to retain the trophy they won last year. When the handicap points for each player were totalled up it was the Eagles who held an advantage or 45 points before a ball was struck but that lead was to be wiped out after first three games when Peter Eyre beat John Hallgarth, Dave Hodgson beat Keith Swift and then Eyre and Matthew Williams defeated Swift and Brian Allen in the first of the three doubles games. To the Eagles credit they hit back straight away with Allen beating Hodgson and Hallgarth beating Williams…full report »
Falcons Swoop To Take Mike Tunningley Shield
Ryton Park Falcons are this seasons Mike Tunningley Shield winners after beating DTH Redlands Monsters in the final at Stanley Street Club. The Monsters who have this season won the Division Two title and have also reached the final of the Reg Wilcox Trophy were favourites going into the match with the Falcons who are a division below them but the Monsters knew they would have to amass a sizeable points difference over the Falcons before the envelope with the handicap points in it would be opened at the end of the match. The three Monsters Riauba brothers set about their task with Valentinas beating Lee Banton 21-7, 21-8 with his brother Orestas doing even better when he beat Mick Potter 21-7, 21-4 but then Jordan Potter managed to score valuable points against Martynas only losing 21-7, 21-9 which gave the Monsters a 64 point lead after only three games.…full report »
The Race For Third Place Goes Down To The Wire
Who finishes in third place in Division One this season will go down to the last match of the season with both Worksop Miners Welfare 'A' and Manton Nomads still in the hunt. Both sides were in action this week and both had vital wins to keep up the pressure on each other. Welfare 'A' who last week had a comfortable 8-2 win over Stanley Street 'A' were again on the winning trail but were made to work hard for their win against a Ryton Park Eagles side who had been relegated the week before. Welfare's Richard Element's hat trick went a long way to ensure his side took all three points with Dave Marsh and Stuart Element adding a win each over John Hallgarth and when Marsh and Richard Element won the doubles it was just enough to see the Welfare side run out 6-4 winners. For the Eagles…full report »
