Monsters Hit Frightening Form

DTH Redlands Monsters have started their Division Two campaign in impressive form and have now won all three of their opening fixtures and sit proudly on top of the division. The three Riauba brothers Orestas, Valentinas and Martynas who are coached by team Captain Howard Knott have now become one of the promotion favourites to Division One especially after their latest win over one of the other front runners DTH Redlands Joggers. Orestas did most of the damage beating all three Joggers players in Matthew Mudd, Lewis Comley and Dennis Learad with Valentinas adding wins over both Mudd and Learad with Martynas beating Learad to complete the singles. Martynas and Orestas then teamed up to beat Mudd and Comley 3-1 in the doubles to complete a 7-3 win which was much closer than the scoreline suggests as six of the games went to deciding sets with the remaining games going…full report »

Piper Calls The Tune In Rookies Win Over Cougars

DTH Redlands Rookies Derek Piper put in a real Captains performance in their Division Three match against Ryton Park Cougars winning all his three games in what beforehand looked like being a very  close game. The Cougars and the Rookies who were both relegated last season are both fancied to be in the mix for the promotion places and make a quick return to Division Two with the Rookies perhaps favourites for the title. Piper who had straight sets wins over Ivan Stallworthy, Dave Lee and Connor Bettley was well supported by Chris Cutts who was making a welcome return to the league and beat both Lee and Bettley but lost out to Stallworthy. Bob Atkins added a solo win over Bettley with the Rookies adding the doubles to run out 7-3 winners.
Elsewhere in Division Three DTH Redlands Tarr Babies caught up on their postponed match but to…full report »

Toys Start Defence Of Title With Convincing Win

DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys made a convincing start to their defence of the Division One crown with a 9-1 drubbing of annual relegation battlers Ryton Park Adders. There were hat tricks for both Peter Cowburn and Steve Johnson with Lea Dickinson adding two wins over Ivan Guilliatt and Worksop League debutant Mark Fisher. Andy Lee spared the Adders from suffering an opening week whitewash by defeating Dickinson in 4 sets. Cowburn and Johnson then teamed up to compound the Adders misery defeating Guilliatt and Lee is straight sets .
Early joint leaders alongside the Toys are Manton Misfits who beat the Adders club colleagues Ryton Park Eagles by the same 9-1 scoreline. Steve Lyon and Kalpesh Bhatt both registered hat tricks with Richard Robinson who was playing up from Division Two managing to beat John Hallgarth and Keith Swift but losing out to Helmuth Osborne in straight sets. High Flying Pete Displays All His Skills At Eyre Show

Stanley Street 'A's Peter Eyre has once again been crowned Hard Bat champion as he defended his Hard Bat title in great style. The Hard Bat competition which has now become the curtain raiser to the league season was held at the Worksop Leisure Centre with 16 players entering the competition who were all ranked in order of ability and split into four groups.
Group A threw up probably the biggest surprise of the night as number one seed Richard Element and Rob Vaughan had both won their opening two group matches against Ben Swain and James Wormwell when they met for their final group game against each other. Element who had been tipped to win the competition lost out to Vaughan 31-30 to leave himself runner up in the group but still qualifying for the quarter finals but if Group B went to form then he would be…full report »

Review Of The Season

The first trophy to be won in the 2014/15 season was way back in November when Clive Eden and John Hallgarth defeated Kartik Lakhani and Andy Kirkland to lift the DTH Senior Doubles Trophy, it was especially sweet for Hallgarth as he successfully defended the title he won the previous year.
As the league season progressed DTH Redlands Roosters were the surprise early front runners in Division One with their club colleagues The Fluffy Toys right on their tails and it wasn't long after the turn of the New Year that the Fluffy Toys had not only caught the Roosters but had built a lead at the top of the division, a lead that they wouldn't let slip as they went on to win their sixth Division One title in a row. At the other end of the table DTH Redlands Joggers and Manton Tigers ended the season in…full report »
