Tarr Babies Upset Adders In Mike Tunningley Shield
Third Division side DTH Redlands Tarr Babies supplied the upset of the week in the first round of the Mike Tunningley Handicap Shield with a 41 point win over Division One side Ryton Park Eagles. Although the Eagles are languishing at the bottom of Division One they were still firm favourites to beat their opponents but if they thought the Mike Tunningley Shield would offer them some respite from their fight to stay up then they were sadly mistaken. For the Adders both Harry Tomlinson and Andy Lee scored the maximum 126 points each with James Wormwell adding a further 122 points losing out to Jack Tarr 40-38 and with both Adam Pinches and Bob Hamilton-McGee adding vital points to keep the margin to 229 to the Adders. It was then left down to the opening of the sealed envelope to reveal the amount of handicap points that had been…full report »
Joggers Run Into Trouble Against X-Youth
Promotion chasing DTH Redlands Joggers had the misfortune of running into their inform club colleagues DTH Redlands X-Youth this week and suffered a setback in their quest to finish in the top two promotion places in Division Two. The X-Youth's Jeff Reay did most of the damage as he recorded wins in straight sets against all three Joggers players in Kyle McIntosh, Matthew Mudd and Lewis Comley. Reay was well supported by the formidable Mark Bloomer who had wins over both McIntosh and Mudd but losing out to Comley. Comley also beat Clive Eden as did Mudd before Eden managed to beat McIntosh in 5 sets to leave the X-Youth 6-3 ahead after the singles matches. In the doubles set Reay teamed up with Eden for X-Youth and they managed to beat Mudd and Comley coming from 2-1 down to win 3-2 in the deciding set to cement a 7-3…full report »
Falcons, Tarr Babies And Street 'E' All Record First Wins Of The Season
Both Ryton Park Falcons and Stanley Street 'E' notched up their first wins of the season with both teams catching up on their games playing two matches each this week. Ironically Street 'E's win came against the Falcons with Tai Chen and Jasper Turner leading the way with Chen registering his first hat trick of the season with Turner adding a further two wins and then teaming up with Chen to take the doubles set to cap a fine performance and to cement a welcome 6-4 victory for the Stanley Street outfit. For the Falcons Mick Potter, Jordan Potter and Jak Eden all beat the Falcon's Harry Beer with Jordan Potter adding another win over Turner.
The Falcon's win came in their match with DTH Redlands Liver Birds and despite another good night for the Liver Birds Adam Kijak who yet again won all his three games and had…full report »
Toys R Walloped!
Reigning Champions DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys who for so long have been used to having things all their own way and sitting on top of Division One season after season were this week brought crashing down to earth with a bang and what a bang it was! Club colleagues and title rivals the Roosters not only inflicted only the Toys second league defeat in three seasons but did it in clinical fashion by hammering them 10-0. There were hat tricks all round for the Roosters trio of Tom McIntosh, Ernest Mpundu and Steve Fox with Fox and Mpundu teaming up to take the doubles to make it five wins out of five to leave them top of the table. The Toys team which was made up of Steve Johnson, Lea Dickinson and Mick Brooks had no answer to the Roosters onslaught and if they are to retain their title then…full report »
Long Season Ahead For Adders And Eagles
Both Ryton Park Adders and Ryton Park Eagles look like they are already in a relegation battle despite the league season only being five weeks old with both teams currently filling the bottom two places in Division One. Both sides were in action again this week with both having away fixtures with the Eagles having what looked on paper the much trickier fixture being up against league leaders and my tip for the title DTH Redlands Roosters. The Roosters had little trouble in sweeping the Eagles aside in a comprehensive 10-0 win with only one of the nine singles games not being won in straight sets when the Eagles Alex Olliffe gave Rick Harris a scare as he led 2-1 before Harris hit back to win in the deciding 5th set. That game aside Harris, Tom McIntosh and Steve Fox all registered straight forward hat tricks before Harris and Fox…full report »
