Rookies And Cougars Finally Off The Mark In Division Two

DTH Redlands Rookies and Ryton Park Cougars who were the only teams left in Division Two still without a point to their name this season are finally off the mark when they played each other and both went home with a share of the spoils after an entertaining 5-5 draw. The man in form on the night was The Cougars Ivan Stallworthy who remained unbeaten on the night after defeating all three of the Rookies team in Derek Piper, Dave Cowburn and Alan Brown but the draw was a real team effort as both Dave Rix and Dave Lee both chipped in with a win each over Cowburn. Although Cowburn couldn't trouble the scorers on this occasion both Piper and Brown managed to defeat Lee and Rix to leave the match delicately poised at 5-4 to The Cougars before they teamed up in the doubles to salvage a point by…full report »

Surprise Exit For McIntosh And Banton In Carnation Cup

Tom McIntosh and Luke Banton fell at the first hurdle in this year's Carnation Cup pairs competition.  McIntosh who won last year's final was the highest ranked player to enter the competition and therefore ranked number one player was paired with the lowest ranked player in Luke Banton and as a pair they were expected to go far in this year's tournament. McIntosh unsurprisingly won both of his singles matches against the opposition pairing of Paul Linfield and Josh Nelson and when both Linfield and Nelson both  defeated Luke Banton it came down to the doubles set to decide the outcome of the match which was delicately poised at 2-2. Linfield and Nelson took the first game 21-16 and then went on to complete a terrific 3-2 victory by winning the next game 21-14 and go through to the next round.

Elks Just Do Enough To Progress In Mike Tunningley Shield

On-Line Elks upset the odds this week as the first round of The Mike Tunningley Shield took centre stage with a break from the usual league fixtures. The Elks from Division Three were away at Division Two side Stanley Street 'C' who had been showing some fine form in their league campaign and perhaps on paper were expected to progress into the next round but the Elks trio of Glen Gillgrass, Jonno Blood and Jerry Collis had other ideas. The defining moments in the match were when Jonno Blood beat Martynas Riauba 21-19 and 21-20 and when Glen Gillgrass also took a game off of  Martynas 21-14 which not only gave the Elks a few vital points more than their opponents but also stopped them building up enough of a points cushion before the handicap was added at the end. The other Riauba brothers Valentinas and Orestas won all their…full report »

Stanley Street 'A' Drag Joggers Into The Relegation Battle

Stanley Street 'A' did themselves and the teams around them a huge favour this week by beating DTH Redlands Joggers and by doing so they have now dragged the Joggers into the relegation dog fight. Although Street 'A' still remain in the bottom two they have closed the gap with the teams immediately above them and only two points now separate themselves and the four teams above them. With Manton Tigers rooted to the bottom with no points it now seems that the last relegation place will be between five other teams. Street 'A' s Peter Eyre did the most damage against The Joggers as he chalked up a comfortable hat trick beating all three Joggers players in Lea Dickinson, Matthew Mudd and Lewis Comley in straight sets. Eyre was well supported by Kyle McIntosh who had 5 set wins over both Mudd and Comley with Dave Hodgkin adding another…full report »

Rascals Extend Lead At The Top

Stanley Street Rascals managed to extend their lead at the top of Division Three over their nearest rivals by beating one of the teams chasing them in DTH Redlands Tarr Babies. The Rascals have now stretched their lead to a massive 8 points but their latest victims do have two games in hand. Their win over the Tarr Babies was a real team effort as all three Rascals players returned two wins each with all of them losing out to the inform Josh Nelson from the Tarr Babies. Ellis Spacey, Harry Downing and Thomas Gladwin all played well in defeating both Greg Suchalski and Adam Pinches to maintain their unbeaten start to the season and their victory was cemented when Spacey and Gladwin had a great win over Nelson and Jack Tarr in the doubles to make the final score 7-3 to the Rascals.
