No Surprises On First Finals Night

The first of the Annual Championships Finals night threw up no surprises with all of the finals going according to the form book. The first final of the night was the Boy's Under 12's which featured Division One player Tom McIntosh who was playing in the first of his four finals and defending the title he won last year. He was up against Josh Nelson of Division Three and despite the gap of two divisions Nelson put up a spirited display but couldn't stop McIntosh winning in straight sets.
Lea Dickinson and Daniel Cutts featured in the Handicap Singles Final with Cutts being awarded 8 points start which proved too much of a deficit for Dickinson to claw back finally losing 21-10, 21-11.

Runners Up Spot Still Up For Grabs

The fight for the Runners Up spot in Division One got a lot closer this week after MBE finally caught up with their games and recorded two good wins in the process to put the pressure back on their rivals Global Marble 'A'.
Both their wins came against the bottom two sides in the division in Ryton Park Adders and DTH Redlands Roosters with the Adders being the first to be put to the sword. MBE's Mark Stanfield was again the man in form beating all three Adders players in Andy Lee, Brian Allen and Mike Nocivelli  whilst being well supported by Andrew Cave with two wins over Nocivelli and Allen with Dave Marsh adding a single win also beating Allen. Stanfield and Marsh then teamed up to take the doubles against Nocivelli and Lee to cement a 7-3 win.

Division Two Title Down To Just Two Teams

The battle to be crowned Division Two Champions is now effectively a two horse race between Stanley Street 'B' and DTH Redlands Joggers after the other side in title contention, Manton Tigers lost twice in six days. The Tigers first defeat was against Ryton Park Eagles, Paul Allison did his usual by registering a hat trick for the Tigers but neither of his team mates Dave Bowns and Phil Hall could add to his wins in a 7-3 defeat. For the Eagles John Hallgarth, Alex Olliffe and Keith Swift all beat Bowns and Hall with Olliffe and Hallgarth then teaming up to take the doubles to cement their victory.
Next up for The Tigers were Global Marble 'B', Allison and Bowns stepped down with Steve Beeston and Bill Bateman replacing them in their line-up but it couldn't stop them slipping to another 7-3 defeat. Global's Rob Vaughan was…full report »

Tarr Babies Come Of Age And Claim Division Three Title

After finishing runners-up last season DTH Redlands Tarr Babies have gone one better this season after being crowned Division Three Champions. Captain Jack Tarr has steered his young team fabulously having only lost one league match all season and only dropping 19 sets in the process. The Tarr Babies clinched the title with yet another convincing win, this time over Ryton Park Cougars with both Keiran Tutter and Daniel Cutts once again registering hat tricks with the only blot on the score sheet for the Tarr Babies being Josh Nelson's 5 set defeat to Ivan Stallworthy. Neither of Stallworthy's fellow team mates could trouble the scorers with both Dave Rix and Connor Bettley leaving empty handed. Captain Jack Tarr then teamed up with Tutter to take the doubles match to cement a 9-1 win and crown a fabulous season for the Tarr Babies.

Fantastic Five For Fluffy Toys

DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys have won the Division One title for the fifth year in succession. Toys who have now won 11 out of 11 league games so far this season retained their title with four games to spare with a 7-3 win at MBE, however their opponents didn't let them have things all their own way. MBE's Mark Stanfield was in red hot form as he dispatched both Tom Wesley and Peter Cowburn in straight sets before coming from 2-1 down to beat the previously unbeaten Richard Wesley 11-7 in the 5th and deciding set. Stanfield's heroics could not be matched by his teammates Dave Marsh and Andrew Cave who lost to all three Fluffy Toys players with the Wesley siblings also winning the doubles against Marsh and Stanfield to cement victory and yet another league title.
