Cowburn Takes Hard Bat Title
Peter Cowburn has been crowned The Hard Bat Champion for this season in what turned out to be a fabulous tournament played at The Worksop Leisure Centre. 20 players took part who were all seeded and were split into 4 groups of 5 players with a round robin format in each group. All the winners of each group remained unbeaten with Group A being won by Peter Cowburn, Group B by last year's Runner Up Peter Eyre, Group C by Nigel Stent and Group D by Mick Bell. Bell had only just arrived back from holiday on the morning of the competition and coupled with some close games it took its toll and he had to retire due to fatigue before the semi finals. It was pleasing to see so many junior players taking part and Bell's retirement was to give one of the junior players a chance to go…full report »
Title Races For Division Two And Division Three Are Now Much Clearer
Results in Divisions Two and Three this week have gone a long way to possibly deciding the destination of the respective titles. Current leaders in Division Two Stanley Street 'B' looked to have given 2nd placed Manton Tigers some hope in their quest to catch them by only drawing with Global Marble 'B' and therefore only winning one point instead of the three on offer for a win. Things could even have been worse for Stanley Street as they came back from 5-3 down to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat managing to win the doubles set 13-11 in the 5th and deciding set to earn a share of the spoils. Their main tormentor was Marbles Rob Vaughan who had a good night beating all of the Street's trio of Paul Linfield, Kyle McIntosh and Matthew Williams with Steve Elkin and Richard Robinson also adding a win each…full report »
Fabulous Turn Out For Annual Closed Championships
There was an impressive turn out for this year's Worksop & District Table Tennis Leagues Closed Championships which were held at Ryton Park School with some great table tennis played by all who took part. It was very encouraging to see so many younger players being involved and the future of table tennis in Worksop looks very bright indeed. Two names that kept cropping up on the draw sheets were those of McIntosh and Wesley and it will come as no surprise to learn that Richard Wesley who is defending his Open Singles crown once again reached the final after defeating brother Tom 3-1 in the semi finals. In the final he will meet fellow team mate Peter Cowburn who had a good day capped by a terrific win over Steve Lyon in his semi final.
Richard Wesley then teamed up with his brother Tom to progress to the…full report »
Fluffy Toys On The Brink Of Retaining First Division Title
After two recent wins DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys are now only one win away from winning the Division One Championship for an incredible 5th year in succession. Although it's still mathematically possible for the Fluffy Toys to be caught they'd have to lose their next 5 matches in a row to be caught and considering they have won all of their 10 League games so far this season, you'd have to be bonkers to bet against them.
There first win came against club colleagues The Roosters who before this game had yet to win a game so far this season and the Fluffy Toys took no time at all in racking up a 9-1 win. For the Toys Richard Wesley maintained his 100% record so far this season as he registered a comfortable hat trick with team captain Steve Walker also winning all his 3 games. The only joy…full report »
