Things Starting To Get Interesting At The Top Of Division Three

Worksop Cypriots 'A' threw the race for the Division Three title wide open this week as they inflicted the first league defeat of the season on Sparken Hill Blue Jays. Their comprehensive 8-2 victory came mainly courtesy of hat tricks for both Nigel Stent and Farhad Saiepour, with Saiepour now making it 36 out of 36 singles wins in the league. Kay Wilson added a single victory over Dave Rix but she couldn't repeat the feat against either Connor Bettley or Ivan Stallworthy. Stent and Saiepour then teamed up to give Stallworthy and Dave Lee a bit of a hiding in the doubles winning in straight sets. The win for the Cypriots now puts them 9 points clear at the top but the Blue Jays do have 3 games in hand and they win them all they will be level on points with Cypriots 'A'.

Nomads Dump Misfits Out Of David Hooton Trophy

League affairs took a back seat this week as the Divisional Handicap Trophy's took centre stage with some terrific matches across all three divisions. In the David Hooton Trophy which is for Division One teams there was a local derby as Manton Nomads entertained their club colleagues Manton Misfits. The Misfits currently find themselves rooted to the bottom of Division One and if they were hoping for better fortunes in the Cup then their hope was short lived as the Nomads soon started to eat away at the107 point lead that the Misfits had been given through the handicap system. Chris Cattell, Ian Henderson and Kartik Lakhani all played well for the Nomads and in only one of the 9 games in the match did the Nomads not manage to outscore their opponents when Henderson and Lakhani lost out to Malcolm Manuel and Steve Elkin in one of the doubles…full report »

Falcons And Blue Jays Make It Through To Mike Tunningley Shield Final

This season's final of The Mike Tunningley Shield will be an all Sparken Hill affair after both the Falcons and Blue Jays overcame their semi-final opponents to safely navigate their way through to the final which will be held at Sparken Hill Academy on Wednesday the 22nd of March. The Falcons side enjoyed a much easier semi-final as their opponents Sparken Hill Hawks only fielded 2 players but take nothing away from the Falcons as they have had a great run in the competition. Against the Hawks they knew that they would be 126 points ahead before a ball was hit but they still stuck to their task and all three Falcons players in Mick Potter, Jordan Potter and Neil Penny beat both Justin Flear and Sam McFarland to cement their advantage which meant that on the table the Falcons had scored 372 point to the Hawks 177 and when…full report »
