Marble Roll Over Zygabytes To Throw Title Race Wide Open

Global Marble pulled off probably the shock result of the season so far by beating title contenders Zygabytes and in doing so threw the Division One title race wide open. The star player on the night was Global's Kerry Radford who registered a fabulous hat trick against a team that many had tipped as one of the favourites to win this year's Division One Championship. Steve Lyon and Kartik Lakhani both chipped in with a win each over Zygabyte's Bob Hume before Radford finished her evening off on a high by teaming up with Lyon to win the doubles. For the Zygabyte's Joe Zygadlo and Dave Kelly both won two games each but it wasn't enough to stop Global recording a 6-4 win and in doing so moving up into 2nd place in the table.

The Cream Rises To The Top In Carnation Cup

The season took another break from league action this week to make way for The Carnation Cup which is the only pairs competition that the league holds. This year's competition started off with two preliminary round matches to see who would reach the quarter final stages. Dave Hodgkin and Jack Tarr were unfortunate to come up against two players who are bang in form in their respective divisions in Tom McIntosh and Clive Eden who both proved just too good on the night and comfortably eased their way into the next round with a 5-0 victory. In the next round they will meet John Hallgarth and Mark Bloomer who managed to overcome Peter Eyre and Daniel Cutts in a match that was much closer than the 4-1 score line suggests. Because of their preliminary round matches they were unable to complete their quarter final match which will now be concluded…full report »

Tarr Babies Come Of Age In Handicap Shield

This week saw a break in league matches as the first round of the Handicap Shield took over with some fabulous close matches made even closer by the awarding of handicap points to the lower placed teams. One such team were Division Three outfit DTH Redlands Tarr Babies who despite being in the division below their more illustrious opponents Stanley Street 'B', they didn't even require the 100 handicap points allotted to them at the end of the match to go through to the next round!
The Tarr Babies trio of Antony Coupe, Lewis Comley and Matthew Mudd pulled of the win of the first round by actually beating Stanley Street 'B' by 32 points before the handicap points were added at the end of the match and with all three players hitting top form at the same time it left Stanley Street's Jack Kirkland, Matthew Williams and  Andy Kirkland…full report »
