Rookies Have Too Much Know How For Sport

The Worksop & District League took a break from league matches this week to concentrate on the Divisional Handicap competitions. The MBE Trophy for 3rd Division teams got underway with DTH Redlands Rookies up against Centre For Sport who currently sit bottom of the division were given a 154 point start due to the handicap system and as they were up against a much more experienced team they were going to need all the help they could get. The Rookies managed to gain the maximum points from each of the 9 games played so it was just a question of whether or not Centre For Sport could score enough to win the match. The ever improving Sport trio Aydon Baker, Sarah Thompson and Glen Gillgrass toiled away all night but try as they might, they couldn't stop the Rookies from going through to the next round by a score line…full report »

Morris Men And Tigers In Stalemate

All the matches in Division Two this weeks were all close encounters with the closest of them all being the game between DTH Redlands Morris Men and Manton Tigers. The man in form on the night was the Tigers Paul Allison who notched up yet another hat trick which proved to be key in the Tigers managing to scrape a 5-5 draw. Steve Beeston managed a solo win and then teamed up with Allison to take the doubles set to secure the draw. For the Morris Men both Ewan Pickersgill and Dilip Malka both secured wins over Beeston and Phil Hall with Kyle McIntosh completing the scoring for the Morris Men by beating Hall.

It's Childs Play As Tarr Babies Keep Pressure On Leaders

DTH Redlands Tarr Babies kept the heat on Division Three leaders DTH Redlands X-Youth this week by comfortably whitewashing Centre For Sport. Veteran Jack Tarr playing only his second league match of the season led the way and he was well supported by team mates Lewis Comley  and Matthew Mudd who both also registered hat tricks before teaming up to take the doubles in straight sets. The win now puts the Tarr Babies only 5 points behind the leaders and as they still have to play each other twice before the end of the season which will have a major bearing on where the Division Three title ends up.
Whilst the Tarr Babies were brushing aside Centre For Sport, X-Youth were themselves having an easy night by beating club colleagues DTH Redlands Allsorts. Both Mark Bloomer and Clive Eden won all their 3 games with the Allsorts only success of…full report »

Zygabytes Extend Lead At Top

Zygabytes  have extended their lead at the top of Division One to five points with a hard fought win over DTH Redlands Roosters. In a close match from start to finish Zygabytes were never more than one set in front until the deciding set at the end of the match and it needed all their battling qualities to see them through. Both Dean Brookes and Joe Zygadlo both won two sets each with Bob Hume adding a further set with Brookes and Hume teaming up to take the doubles as well. By far the most crucial set of the match was the last one of the night, with Zygabytes leading 5-4 it was left to Dean Brookes and the Roosters Dave Gascoyne to do battle to decide the outcome of the match but with Brookes hitting top form just at the right time he comfortably took the set and therefore…full report »

Redlands X-Youth Make It A Perfect Ten

Division Three side DTH Redlands X-Youth have continued their fabulous start to the season by making it ten wins from ten matches and have now stretched their lead at the top to what looks like an unassailable 8 points. The first of their most recent games saw them comfortably dispatch Ryton Park Dragons 7-3 with hat tricks for both Clive Eden and Jeff Reay who then teamed up to take the doubles. The Dragons trio of Justin Flear, Ryan Jarvis and Lee Banton all beat Jack Eden but it was never going to be enough against the title favourites.
The same three X-Youth players then turned out against club colleagues Redlands Rascals with again the exact same outcome! Clive Eden and Jeff Reay again won all their three games and then again teamed up to take the doubles with Jack Eden once again missing out and going home winless. For…full report »
